Y., June 17.— Top Flight, a handsome big home-bred daughter of Dis Done and Flyatit, which races for C. V. Whitney, jumped into instant fame at Aqueduct when, starting for the first time, she was winner of the Clover Stakes. This is a race for juvenile fillies, and carried a net value to the winner of ,775. It was W. R. Coes Polonaise which raced into second place, with Mrs. John Hay Whitneys Brocado easily saving third from Willis Sharpe Kilmers Dark Seeker. The course was still heavy from the recent rains, and the race of Top Flight was a remarkable one when she ran the five furlongs in :58. Polonaise, which chased her home, had suffered more than a share of the misfortune in the race, making her performance a notable one. With the threat of rain in the forenoon the skies cleared, and the crowd was a large one — in fact, so large that the program supply had been exhausted before the first race, and the late arrivals could obtain none. OFF TO GOOD START. The start in the Clover Stakes was a good one, and Robertson had Top Flight right with the leaders from the first stride. Before the elbow of the course was reached she was showing the way and racing along next to the inner rail. In the meantime the other Whitney hope, Pintail, had swerved to the outside and was running near the outer rail at a great loss of ground. Brocado was chasing closely after Top Flight, and Morden was in third place and just showing the way to Dark Seeker, which, after leaving slowly, was rushed into contention. Polonaise had been badly bumped leaving the stalls and ran into considerable trouble in the early stages. It was not until inside the final furlong that Polonaise really had a fair racing chance, and there she finished gamely, but Robertson kept Top Flight goin to be winner by a length. Polonaise was a length before Brocado, which in turn just beat Dark Seeker by a half length for third. John J. Robinsons Lucky Tom, sent to the post by H. C. Riddle, was a surprise winner of the opening dash, for plater juveniles. He closed with a rush that saw him winner over W. E. Worleys Galapan by a length, while the Rancocas Stables Contribute saved third from Princel. CLAIM OF FOUL NOT ALLOWED. Then there came a claim of foul after the running, when Kennedy, who rode Princel, made a complaint against Snider, on Galapan, which had carried his mount out rather badly. The claim was not allowed. And there was another untoward happening when Porgie stumbled at the start and unseated Rose. In the running Contribute left quickly and had speed enough to cross from the outside to the inside. Surf Bather went with him to the elbow, where it was Gala-pan which came into the running as Surf Bather dropped back. Galapan was keeping Contribute exceedingly close when Princel and Lucky Tom moved up on the outside. Then it was that Galapan bore out rather badly and carried Princel with him, giving reason for the claim of foul. At the end Lucky Tom was going away and Galapan readily outfinished the tired Contribute, which only saved third by a head. It was a good band of sprinters that came together in the second race, framed as a high class claiming race. This went to George D. Wideners Condescend, ridden by the inexperienced D. Smith. C. Harvey Pierces The Heathen raced to second place and third was the portion of Mowris, from the Rancocas Stable. Jamison acted so badly that he was taken outside the stall machine and as a result he was away so badly as to have scant Continued on twenty-recond page. Jamison was rushed around from his slow beginning until he reached fourth place, but it had cost so much effort that he was through when the stretch was reached. Condescend stuck to his task resolutely until he had put Fervor away and then in the stretch he gradually wore The Heathen down until at the end he was on by. winning going away by a length. Mowris. outrun early, outfinished the tiring Fervor to heat him for third by half a length, while Jamison and Highwood. the other starters, were beaten off. Cheap ones raced one mile and a furlong in the third and it saw another J. H. Louchheim victory when Robrack scored rather handily over E. M. Byers Symbol, with Mrs. Olive Curtis- Reigh Olga closing a considerable gap to beat Val Cranes Mace don for third. Symbol was the one to set the pace and Carnival and Robrack chased after him. with The Whip racing third. Both Reigh Olga and Macedon were well hack in the early stages and in the hack stretch they did not make up much ground. Symbol was still show ing the way as the stretch turn was made, but by that time Carnival had dropped back beaten, while Robrack had moved up into second place. Reigh Olga was moving next to the rail, but he had met with some interference and it was a rough race. Then in the final furlong Robrack caught Symbol to win going away by two lengths. Reigh Olga at the end found his way through on the inside to save third from Macedon. but he was six lengths back of Symbol. Frederick Johnsons Sistony. a foiu year-old son of Sporting Blood and Scally. tinder a good ride by Coltiletti. just got up to win over the maidens that started in the mile of the fifth race. Morton L. Schwartz Sir John Alden. after racing into a long early load, took second place, and Marshall Fields Martinelli saved third from Smooth Knight. From a good start Walls at once went out with Sir John Alden. and he was five lengths clear when the run through the back stretch had been completed. Al Neiman was racing second, and then came Martinelli. with Smooth Knight and Skyway well hack of those. In the stretch McAtee made an effort to drive Martinelli up to Sir John Alden after Al Neiman was through, but the son of Stimulus swerved under a drive and could not close the gap. In the meantime Sistony, charging up on the outside under a furious drive, just got up to be winner by a head. Sir John Alden had lasted to beat Martinelli by a length and a half, and Smooth Knight was a distant fourth. At the end of the program T. B. Humphreys Chief Challenger beat a cheap hand over the one mile and a furlong. He took the lead shortly after the start and. forcing the pace, was winner with something to spare. Ceylon Prince, outrun to the stretch, finished with a rush to take second place, while Bubsy C. after racing close to the leaders throughout, tired badly in the final drive.
