ADJUSTING THE TOTALIZATOR Hialeahs New Wagering Machiife Running Twelve Hours Daily Mutuel Force Being Drilled. MIAMI, Fla., Dec. 31. Mortimer Mahoney, director of mutuels at Hialeah Park, re- ports that rapid progress is being made in the installation of the 50,000 Australian totalizator, which J. E: Widener is introducing into America for the first time. The three main units which assemble, sort, and record the wagering, have been running for. a week, twelve hours each day, to shake it down and perfect the adjustments. The issuers, which print and flip out the tickets to the purchasers, have been completely installed in the major selling blocks in the main stand and those which will be operated in the club house and paddock division will be in place before the end of the week. Mr. Mahoney has been busy drafting his: personnel during the past week, his inside staff consisting of calculators, personnel staff, money-room men, ticket checkers and money messengers have been appointed and the selling and cashing force is virtually completed. "After watching the tote in its trial runs for the past week, I am more than ever convinced that it is a notable advancement in the efficiency of our system of wagering," declared Mr. Mahoney. "As soon as the outlying units of issuers are installed, which will be within a few days, the tote will be more fully tested. I am perfectly confident of its utility."
