JUVENILE CONTEST AT MIAMI New Years Handicap Heads Tropical Park Program Sixteen Youngsters in Baby Race. MIAMI, Fla., Dec. 31. With the New Years Handicap as. the special feature for the holiday racing at Tropical Park, an excellent supporting card has been prepared. The feature, to be run as the fifth race, is over one mile and a sixteenth, and has a purse value of ,000. While only six were named, there is every prospect that it will result in an excellent contest. Top weight of the lot is Knight Commander, from the Peconic Stable, and he will have for his running mate Calf Roper. The pair will undoubtedly attract the most attention from the public. Bay Angon and Skyway, both winners at the meeting, are in the field and it will see Rip Van Winkle, which raced under the silks of Mrs. Am-orys Sagamore Stable earlier in the season, is another. The remaining one is Arras. Another interesting race is a short quarter mile dash for juveniles. This will be run through the Coralway Course, which is just eighty feet short of a quarter of a mile. This same start will be used for the mile and a quarter, making it short the same distance. There are a vast number of the baby thoroughbreds on hand awaiting a racing opportunity, which is shown from the fact that sixteen were named for the first race of the new year. The limit number is fixed at fourteen so that two appear as also eligible. Three of the races are over a distance of ground, there is a seven furlongs race and two of the contests are over five and a half furlongs. NEW TEARS HANDICAP.
