tropical park turf notesT $ . Jack Reese spent the better part of the morning chalking up "Happy New Year to All" on the two big mutuel boards. "Happy Jack" said hed like to be on the Bowery in New York just for tonight. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bowes of the Roaring Forties, are here exchanging tips with friends in the club house. Little Hank Mills leads the jockeys thus far with six victories. The ninety-pound Grand Junction, Colo., lad looks like the riding find of the new year. J. P. Fletcher and Henry Roseacher are leading the owners with three victories each and J. P. "Bud" Mayberry is way out in front so far as trainers are concerned. He has had four winners and as many seconds. One of this afternoons spectators was Ernest Heider, foremost steeplechase rider of his day. He likes the track and says he will remain for a few days. Georgie Carroll is making engagements for C. E. Allen, one of the best riders hereabouts. Allens services are in demand all over the country. Benny Creech and Clarence Buxton would like to use him. Don Yates, who shipped Popcorn and Vivian Wright from Bowie to Oriental Park, stopped off at Tropical Park to take in the races this afternoon. Yates left Baltimore last Saturday and is motoring to Cuba. He sent Yahcy, Christmas and Tang down with his stable and the latter won a race a few days ago. At the conclusion of the Maryland season, Christmas purchased a farm at Rosaryville, a short distance from Upper Marlboro, and he is wintering at his new home.
