BACKFIRE, quickest to start, escaped early interference and went into a winning lead on the turn and, Steadied along through the stretch, won with speed to spare. PRINCE SWEEP, in close quarters in the early stages, gained steadily when clear, but could not overhaul the winner. ON LEAVE, slow to get going, worked his way up on the outside and outlasted VOLCRY. The latter had a rough race. BOKIE B. was Jtnocked completely out of it when BOREALIS crossed over in front of her at the three-eighths post. MARABOU, prominent in the early stages, came through between the leaders entering the stretch and, assuming command when straightened out, held on gamely in the final drive and outlasted HAZEL GUMBERTS. The latter gradually worked her way up on the outside on the turn, lost much ground, but for which she might have won. MISS CHILLA, closest to the leader, saved ground throughout and had no excuses. ORKIN closed a big gap from a slow start. BLACK STOCKINGS was forced back on the stretch turn when attempting to come through. CHIANTI showed good speed for five-eighths, then quit badly. The latter, a contender throughout, held on well in the stretch. TACK, close up throughout, lost ground entering the stretch, but finished resolutely when clear. WANDERING GOLD, pinched back at the three-eighths post, came again when clear and finished fastest of all. CORBEAU could not get up. NIGHT EDITION began off stride, but was rushed to the front in the first eighth and, cut off by the leaders while racing on the inside at the quarter post, lost all chance. The latter began tardily and was blocked repeatedly while racing on the inside, but came through entering the stretch, then tired. ON SIR finished resolutely.
