STANLEY PRODUCE CANCELLED Woodbine Stake Won Last by Mate - Called Off and One for Native Breds to Take Place. TORONTO, Ont., Jan. 6 Owners with nominations for the Stanley Produce Stakes of 1932-1933 have been advised by letter that this fixture, run annually at Woodbine Park, and the richest stake in Canada last year, has been cancelled. The added value of the stake was 0,000, and its last winner was Mate, which defeated the poorest field that ever contested this feature and added 0,-150 to A. C. Bostwicks coffers. Starting with the fall of 1934, the Ontario Jockey Club will run instead the Stanley Foal Stakes, entries for which closed last August 18. This will have ,000 added, at a mile and a quarter, and is confined to Canadian-bred three-year-olds owned in Canada at the time of starting. Following is a copy of the circular sent by Palmer Wright, secretary-treasurer of the Ontario Jockey Club, to owners with nominations in the Stanley Produce advising them of the cancellation of the stake: "Being satisfied that no useful purpose can be served in the continued running of the Stanley Produce Stakes for the years 1932-33, my board of directors has decided to take advantage of the clause in the conditions of this stake reading: The Ontario Jockey Club reserves the right to cancel this race upon repayment of all entrance fees paid in advance. "In the case of a horse having been sold with his engagement for this stake, the money should be returned to the present owner, he being the one who has the right to start the horse, and, according to the rules of the Canadian Racing Association, the engagements of a horse bought or claimed in a selling or claiming race pass with the horse to the purchaser or claimant. Therefore, in either of the above two cases the money should be given to the present owner of the horse."
