BETFANDOT followed close to the early pace and, taking a clear lead when PURPLE LIGHT tired in the stretch, won easily. DARK RAY, probably best, was shuffled back to last place after the start, then made up much ground. SALZ was also going well at the end after being outrun early. PURPLE LIGHT and HERELNA were used up making the pace. TROMPE was in close quarters on the stretch turn. PRIDE OF TEXAS was caught in a jam at the start, but made up ground "when clear. LITTLE PAT and JENKINS ROCHESTER were forced to pull up on the first turn. MACON was cut off at the start. BROWN MASTER, in close quarters on the first turn, continued gamely and, going to the outside at the head of the stretch, took command and lasted to hold PATUXANT safe. The latter, probably best but poorly ridden, was allowed to drop far back in the early stages, raced wide in the last quarter and could not get up BUD ELDER showed much improvement and held on well after being overtaken.
