BLOW AT JOCKEYS AGENTS Havana Track Names Official Representative and Specifies Fee Charged Riders. HAVANA, Cuba, Feb. 3. Samuel C. Nuckols, presiding steward, is the first to take official action looking to the elimination of agents for jockeys. Protection of riders prompted judge Nuckols to take this step, which overthrows, at least in Havana, a system in vogue on race courses everywhere. It is the belief of judge Nuckols that the rule, if universally applied, would bring a large saving to riders. There has been posted in the secretarys office a notice that "after February 2, 1932 the Jockey Club will neither sanction nor recognize jockeys agents." Lester Newton has been appointed the official agent to make all engagements for riders, the fee for each engagement to be 25 cents. Judge Nuckols said that, under the old practice, jockeys had paid to agents obtaining riding engagements for each losing mount and for every winning mount. He continued. "I have always felt that this fee is not right; that the jockey is being deprived of money rightfully his; that no reason exists for a jockey to be supporting men who do not render a service for the fee they exact. It is an evil that deserves to. be suppressed."
