AQUEDUCT STAKES ENTRIES Large and Glassy List of Nominations for Jockey Club Fixture. Twenty Grand, Mate and Other Stars Named for Brookly Handicap C. V. Whitney Largest Nominator. NEW YORK, N. Y Feb. 18. The list of nominations to the stakes, steeplechases and fixtures to be run at the coming summer meeting of the Queens County Jockey Club at Aqueduct, makes an impressive showing and gives a glimpse of the high class sport to be given this year at this popular course. The meeting at Aqueduct begins Friday, June 10, and continues until Tuesday, July 6. President John E. Cowdin and his associates in the management of the affairs of the Queens County Jockey Club consider the good response made by owners and trainers one of the best indications of the confidence they have in the future of the sport. All of the leading owners have entered the pick and pride of their respective stables in the various outstanding fixtures of the Aqueduct season. The list prepared by racing secretary Henry C. Pebler, which is exclusive of the sixty-seven entries made to the 0,000 Dwyer Stakes which closed December 15, shows that C. V. Whitney tops the list with 109 nominations, with E. R. J3radley second, with eighty-two, and the Greentree Stable and Sagamore Stable tied for third place with seventy-four entries each. While the great three-year-old 0,000 Dwyer Stakes is always the outstanding feature of the Aqueduct meeting, there are several other events that have won and held a strong position with race course patrons, notably the traditional and classical Brooklyn Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at a mile and a furlong. Among this years entries are Rocky News, Faireno, Mate, Questionnaire, Osculator, Incantation, Twenty Grand, Tick On, Vander Pool, Clock Tower, Equipoise, Halcyon, Top Flight, Pari-Mutuel and Curate. The Great American, a dash of five furlongs, for two-year-olds, received 139 entries. This .contest is always watched with intense interest. In money value it is always among the leaders in Aqueduct offerings. The Carter Handicap, one of Aqueducts old standbyes over the seven furlongs stretch, has among its sixty-three contenders Senado, Ormesby, Pardee, Bayard II., Questionnaire, Universe, Flying Heels, Mor-fair, Irenes Bob, Fleet Flag, Vander Pool, Clock Tower, Fall Apple, Top Flight, Hi-Jack and Mr. Sponge. Among the forty nominations to" the Brookdale Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at a mile and a furlong, are Rocky News, Faireno, Ormesby, Fleet Flag, Questionnaire, Backgammon, Clock Tower, Barcelona Pete, Blenheim, Top Flight, Equipoise, Pari-Mutuel, Curate and Spinach. President Cowdin has directed special efforts toward making the steeplechase division of the summer meeting as attractive as those on the flat, not alone in the quality of timber toppers which will perform over the green, but in the field itself. The opening day will find the soil and equipment for steeplechasing in the best possible shape and condition. All the leading stables have made numerous nominations to the various events. The Glendale Steeplechase Handicap, over the two and one-half mile course, received forty-one entries, including such tried and true jumpers as Burglar, Rooney, Barometer, Louis dOr, Le Bey, Brown Ruler, Kings Crier, Actor, Jack Anthony, Chenango, Luckite, Messmate II., Beacon Hill, Iridescent, Prowler and Arc Light.
