EQUALS TRACK RECORD Batty Gallops One Mile and a Six-. teenth in 1:4525. Accounts for Fort Lauderdale Purse at Tropical Park Near Accident Mars First Race.. MIAMI, Fla., March 2. Batty, the four-year-old daughter of St. Germans and Crazy Moon, which was formerly of the Green-tree Stable, but now races for A. Ketchell, was winner of the best offering at Tropical Park this afternoon when, under a good ride by Hank Mills, she scored in the Fort Lauderdale Claiming Purse, at one mile and a sixteenth. The time equalled the track record when the filly ran it in 1:45. It was Jesse Spencers Skrip that raced to second place, with J. W. Mays Please, which set the pace, saving third from Starboard Light. With delightful weather, .there was another big crowd out for the sport and continued activity in the mutuels. The sport was excellent, though in the first race there was an accident when J. Pollard was unseated from Ward-in-Chancery near the stretch turn. Fortunately no serious harm was done and Pollard rode in the following race. PLEASE TAKES LEAD. In the feature the start was a good one and, going to the first turn, Please and Sun Shadow, closely lapped, were showing the way. Before the backstretch was reached Please had taken command and as Robertson moved over to the rail with him, Sun Shadow dropped back slightly. Mills, in the meantime, moved up with Batty and she was soon in second place and going along under slight restraint. Skrip moved up at the same time, but Please was holding his lead resolutely. Then as Mills challenged with Batty on the middle of the turn going to the stretch corner, Robertson went to the whip on Please to have him hold his rail position. Batty had taken command on the turn and from that time the result was no longer in doubt. Skrip had chased along after her to beat the tired Please three-quarters of a length for second place and Starboard Light gained some ground to be fourth. Sun Shadow appeared to sulk, for he was away well and seemed to have plenty of racing room, but he would not extend himself fully and continued to drop back until he finished fifth. POLLARD UNSEATED. There was an accident in the running of the opening six furlongs dash for maiden three-year-olds when Godfrey Preeces Ward-in-Chancery stumbled and unseated Pollard when nearing the stretch turn. He was well beaten at the time. This race went to Mose Lowensteins Make Speed, with A. Snyders Sultry racing to the place, while Mrs. A. Crouchs Lady Ara saved third from Dear Duff, one that was making his first appearance under silks. , Buddy Ensor, who was making his appearance in the saddle, was applaude sw he appeared in the parade with Sultry. Ufc rode a creditable race, but his mount ws not good enough to catch Make Speed, which raced into an early lead. Robertson sdiflt the latter along on the rail all the weJ score by two and a half lengths. Ensor baa Sultry away in the front division axul worked his way up on the rail until the head of the short stretch, where he ctme around Lady Ara and readily took the plUJe by three lengths from the filly which wis eight lengths before Dear Duff. Ward-in-Chancery broke slowly and wa far out of the running in the early stages. He was making up some ground when he stumbled badly and threw Pollard. Three cars pulled out of Hialeah last night. Included in the shipment were Steve Lawler, with four; E. Sietas, two; W.t3. Martin, two, and E. Fred, with three. They were billed to Aqueduct. J. I. Smith and Robert McKeever left for Bowie, as did also J. J. Farrell, A. G. Weston, C. Winfrey and Steve Judge. Mose Lowenstein is sending three two-year-olds to Kentucky, where they will be turned out The good looking Wise Counsellor colt, My Counsellor, is among the number. This youngster, which is rather growthy, wfll be given opportunity to fill out, with the hope that he will develop into a Derby colt. Repentance was shipped direct to Belmont Park, where he will be turned over to Max Hirsch.
