MATRON STAKES ELIGIBLES i Best Fillies and Mares in Country in Arlington Stake. ♦ Lady Broadcast, Con Amore, Cousin Jo, Tred Avon, Kincsen and Canfli Among Those Named. • The generous response of horsemen in nominating their fillies and mares to the Arlington Matron Handicap is very gratifying to the management of the Arlington Park Jockey Club, president Otto W. Leh-mann said yesterday in announcing the list of entries to the ,500 added event. "There is only one other event in American racing like it, the Ladies Handicap at Belmont Park," Mr. Lehmann said, "and for that reason the total of seventy nominations, embracing nearly all of the better known racers of the feminine class, is well above our expectations." "After they are three years old fillies have too few opportunities in racing without overcoming the hardships encountered in races open to horses of both sexes," Mr. Lehmann added, "and it is Arlington Parks aim to give them the consideration they deserve on our program." Three-year-old fillies compose more than three-fourths of the Matron Handicaps eligible list, but the older fillies and mares are well known for their ability and appear thoroughly able to withstand the threats of their younger adversaries. Among them are F. A. Carreauds Kincsen, Brownell Combs Manta, J. W. Y. Martins Con Amore, H. M. Woolfs Lady Broadcast, Calumet Farms Ladana, H. P. Gardners Betty Derr, S. W. Labrots Tred Avon, Charles Nuckols Cousin Jo, Three Ds Stock Farms Canfli and Mrs. John" Hertz Risque, which was victorious lats season in the Matron. Principal opposition from the three-year-old fillies may be forthcoming from among C. V. Whitneys Top Flight, G. D. Wideners Evening, R. S. Clarks Kakapo, W. R. Coes Polonaise and Laughing Queen, Greentree Stables Parry, H. P. Headleys Modern Queen, Mrs. Hertz Seven Veils and French Duchess, W. S. Kilmers Dark Charmer and Suntica, J. W. Parrishs Depression, Schut-tinger and Cooneys Dark Seeker and Wheat-ley Stables Unique. Weights for the Arlington Matron, which is a dash of one mile over the Hertz course, will be made by Joseph McLennan, racing secretary and handicapper.
