SPORTSMANS PARK OPENING 1 Half-Mile Track Racing to Be Introduced in Chicago Monday. i Beautiful Little Plant Completed and Everything in Thorough Readiness for Inaugural Racing. 1 CICERO, 111., April 30.— Racing will be inaugurated at Sportsmans Park Monday under the auspices of the newly organized National Jockey Club. An excellent program, embracing eight races, constitutes the opening entertainment, and the Sportsmans Park Inaugural Handicap, at six and one-half furlongs, is the feature. Eight sturdy performers are named, and with a continuance of clear weather it is probable that all the scheduled starters will accept. The Jackson Park and Harvey, both allowance races, are the chief support of the feature. The former brings together a rather formidable field of two-year-olds for a dash of four and one-half furlongs, while the latter engages a band of three-year-olds at about five furlongs. The remainder of the card is given over to performers of the claiming division. , Everything is in readiness, the huge force / of workmen having completed their work, and Chicago enthusiasts will see the finest half-mile track in the country when the gates are thrown open Monday. Stewards Graddy, Digby and OHare finished ■ their task of passing on trainers and I jockeys applications, and, while some were I tabled, the majority were granted licenses. Owners and trainers claiming the apprentice allowance at time of entry will be » obliged to ride an apprentice as stewards j will not permit a change in riders. The following horses will have to break from the outside: Judge Bartlett, Chrysanthemum, . Thistle Telee. Bozo, Toman, Harry Hieover, Open Go Shut, Cash Play, Noon | Play, Mulligans Son, Big Star and Red Grange. i Jockey Pat Remillard was an arrival from 1 Maiylan*. and will do the riding for W. J. Potter. B. E. Chapman, J. Bishop. L. Haymaker, B. B. Rice and H. M. Luttrell, who will race ■ here, are due to reach here Monday. Horses that are excused for any other r reason except changed track conditions will 1 not be allowed to start within forty-eight t hours. L. V. Bellew is an arrival from Lexington. t. He brought the good plater, Dr. Parrish. J. D. Grant registered Martha Long and d Bill Buford, which will carry the colors of W. C. Reeve.
