GALLANT KNIGHT ELIGIBLE Among Entries for Three 0,000 Added Stakes to Be Run at Arlington Park Course. Audley Farms Gallant Knight, whose recent victory in the Dixie Handicap at Pim-lico heralds the five-year-old son of Bright Knight and Ethel Gray as one of the outstanding older horses in American racing, is one of the prominent candidates for the three 0,000 added events on the Arlington Park Jockey Clubs summer program. He is at the mercy of handicapper Joseph McLennan in the Stars and Stripes Handicap at one mile and a furlong, and in the Arlington Handicap at one mile and a furlong, while in the Arlington Gold Cup his weight will be 126 pounds, equal to that of all other older horses. Three-year-olds must carry 114 pounds. Despite chronic lameness, Gallant Knight has been a star for three years prior to 1932, and the manner in which the veteran has gone about his training and racing already this season suggests that trainer Kay Spence has the Audley representative going more soundly than ever. Outside of winning a number of rich events, both East and West, Gallant Knight holds the worlds record for six and one-half furlongs, set Derby Day a year ago at Churchill Downs, where he turned the distance in the almost unbelievable time of 1:16%. The Dixie, marking his second victory in as many starts this spring, is added to such triumphs as the Grainger Memorial Handicap, Fairmount Derby, Latonia Derby and Breeders Futurity. He also finished second in the Kentucky Derby, American Derby and Classic, and third in the Arlington Cup and Peabody Memorial. In taking the Pim-lico event May 7, he set a new track record of 1:58 for the mile and three-sixteenths. Since coming to the races in 1929, Gallant Knight has won sixteen races out of thirty-four starts, being second six times and third in four tries. His money earnings total 24,299. B. B. Jones bred Gallant Knight at his Audley Farm in Virginia, and after his racing days are over he probably will return to the stud there.
