ALPHEUS, rated close up, took command at the fifth obstacle and, steadied at all his jumps, resisted TOTALISATOR at the thirteenth fence and, although tiring fast in the final drive, was able to hold TOTALISATOR safe. The latter, saved for the first mile, challenged boldly going to the thirteenth fence, but landed poorly and was greatly distressed thereafter. POLINOS was held safe after a mile. HUON JOY raced gamely, but could not last. DRAGON DE VERTU was always far back. HETMAN fell lame and was pulled up. BROWN PET finished gamely and, overtaking TUG O WAR in the final eighth, outlasted the latter, but was bearing to the inside. TUG O WAR took a clear lead, saved ground, but tired in the closing eighth. DAY DREAMER, a factor throughout, held on gamely. MAJOR LEE, prominent and racing in his best form, finished. DANNY BOY closed fast from a slow start. YANCEY began slowly and tired badly after going into contention. CLEAR KNIGHT met with no mishaps. WEDDING RING, showing excellent speed, drew clear soon after the start, saved ground until entering the stretch, swerved out badly and, repeatedly bumping into INDIANTOWN in the stretch, outlasted the latter, but was disqualified for interference. INDIANTOWN, closest to the winner from the start, was carried out in the stretch, but continued gamely. ACAUTAW saved ground, but could not threaten the loaders. VOLWOOD showed a good performance. ARROWSWIFT, lacking early speed, went to the outside when clear and finished resolutely. SERENABIT raced wide under weak handling. PRECIOUS DOLLAR was away slowly and went wide all the way. FRUMPER, rated along under restraint until midway of the back stretch, moved up gradually and, wearing down MAJOR GENERAL near the stretch, withstood a terrific drive, outlasting ULUNIU. The latter, close up early, came through on the inside in the last three-eighths and was wearing down the winner. FLEET FLAG, an early trailer, went around the others and finished gamely. BURGOO KING, bumped by MAD PURSUIT at the start, was sent up on thx outside after going to the first turn, gained a contending position midway of the back stretch and, coming with excellent speed for the final drive, withstood a strong drive and was up to win in the final sixteenth. TICK ON, a factor and racing kindly, fell back midway of the second turn, was placed to punishment and, finishing resolutely when coming again, was racing fastest of all at the end. BOATSWAIN, quick to start and showing brilliant early speed, saved much ground under restraint and fought it out desperately. MAD PURSUIT worked his way up gamely in the closing half-mile, but did not threaten the first three. WAR HERO was bothered slightly when CURACAO fell back suddenly, but closed gamely.
