HATE IS NEARING BEST FORM Workouts Indicate He Is Ready for Saturdays Metropolitan — Spinach Goes Well. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 19— A. C. Bost-wicks Mate, top weight for the Metropolitan Handicap, the big Saturday feature at Belmont Park, was sent along for an easy seven furlongs in 1:26% this morning. The son of Prince Pal and Killashandra appears fit and ready for his engagement and it is expected he will give a better account of himself than he did in the running of the Dixie Handicap at Pimlico. . Spinach, the William Ziegler, Jr. candidate, had a mile in 1:40% as his task. It was accomplished in a way to indicate that the son of Sir Martin will be sent to the post. The Brookmeade Stables three-year-old Flag Pole is an eligible for the Metropolitan, but it is not known that he will be sent to the post. He was handicapped at the feather of ninety-seven pounds, but his victory of Wednesday incurred a penalty of four pounds, bringing his weight to 101. That this colt is ready for the mile was evidenced in the Swift Stakes, but he is also an eligible for the Withers Stakes and the Belmont and he may be reservd for those more important fixtures, in which he will only be opposed by those of his own age. Burgoo King, winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, is being pointed for the Withers by Thompson. That he still is possessed of all his speed was shown when he was permitted to go along for a speed test of three furlongs in :34V5. This was accomplished handily by the son of Bubbling Over. Stepenfetchit, which was third in the Derby, and his stablemate. Over Time, both of which are Withers eligibles, from the stable of Mrs. John Hay Whitney, were brought out for an easy six furlongs in 1:14%. Both were well in hand all the way.
