GRATTAN, used up racing with CAMP BOSS early, bore out on the stretch turn and, tiring near the end, barely lasted to hold OUT BOUND. The latter closed well and would have been second in another stride. CALF ROPER showed improvement. ETCETERA and KENSINGTON raced poorly. CHICAGO raced in four bandages. ARAB began poorly. PLUCKY PLAY responded gamely to hard urging after going half the distance and, saving much ground in the stretch, got through a narrow opening in the final sixteenth and was drawing away at the finish.-FAIRENO went to the front soon after the start and set a good pace under restraint, but tired and swerved in nearing the finish, interfering slightly with PLUCKY PLAY. MATE was closest to FAIRENO in the early running and held on fairly well. GUSTO was badly outrun early and, although making up some ground, did not threaten. ALL HAIL found an opening on the stretch turn when the leaders raced wide and closed fast. TONY JOE met with much interference and had little chance, although racing well. COG-AIR was well up in the early running and was carried wide at the stretch turn. WISE LEE and CAIUS met with some interference. JACK COLLINS, weakly handled, raced wide on the turns and swung to the middle of the track at the stretch turn. DEWEY FLY showed good earlv speed.
