Mrs. Al Luzader registered her first success in several weeks when Claret was returned winner of the Fairmount Golf Club- Purse, the fifth and principal offering at. Bainbridge Park this afternoon. She overhauled tha leaders, Princella and Friar, while rounding the stretch turn and drew clear during the run home. Dark Abbot came from far back through the last quarter mile to outlast the tiring Princella rather handily for the second honors. Under ideal conditions the racing was staged and a good crowd for an off-day was in attendance. The racing was spirited, featured by numerous keen stretch struggles. In a rousing stretch drive, The King, after racing forwardly throughout, was awarded the decision by the shortest of margins in the curtain raiser. Finir closed with a brilliant rush and was going fastest of all on the outside of the leaders as the end was reached. The finish was so close that a majority of the crowd thought Finir had won until the official placing was displayed. Hard Rock, a keen factor all the way, was a bang-up third. Taking command at once, Frank Serem-bas Yvette V. outran her opponents by a wide margin at all stages of the second race. Jockey T. May had the mount on the winner, which ruled favorite j.nd her victory was popular. Major Gomez outlasted Manora during the stretch test for the second award. After following in closest pursuit of Toltec, the pacemaker, until midway of the stretch in the third race, Bay Rose quickly raced into the lead, which she retained rather handily to the end. Wise Maid closed fast when she obtained clear racing room entering the stretch and finished well in advance of the others. Toltec tired rapidly after being overhauled, barely saving the minor award by a head from the resolutely finishing Algol. Johnny Winans saddled his first winner of the local racing season for C. R. Aldrich when Perfect Play earned the victory over Hehukai and Southland Toy in the fourth race. The trio reached the finish heads apart, and the superior riding of the apprentice, R. Clemons, was the deciding factor-in the success of Perfect Play. Southland Toy and Perfect Play raced closely lapped, contesting the leadership throughout, while Hehukai made her bid during the stretch test.
