1 . TWO VALUABLE RACES AT LAUREL Selima Stakes and Maryland Handicap Twin Features of Saturdays Program at Maryland Track Star Racers in Both Events i LAUREL, Md., Oct. 21. With both the Selima Stakes and the Maryland Handicap down for decision tomorrow, the Maryland State Fair Association offers one of its most attractive programs of the sport. The Selima, for which William Woodward, chairman of The Jockey Club is chiefly responsible, and to which he adds a challenge cup, is at a mile for juvenile fillies, and it has an added money value of 0,000. For the running eighteen have been named. Of these, James Fitzsimmons promises to saddle three in William Woodwards Bay Agnes and the Wheatley Stables Iseult and Notebook. Of these Notebook, in a recent performance through muddy going, showed her entire readiness for a good performance and she appears best of the trio. C. V. Whitney is represented by Volette and Stepsister, both of which have been brought up. to the race nicely. W. R. Coe has a good pair in Sunny Queen and Pompalo. The Greentree Stable has a pair in Easy Day and Welcome Gift and the Audley Farm Stable promises to send two to the post in Knights Gal and Bright Shadow. Besides these Edward R. Bradley will be well represented by Barn Swallow and A. C. Schwartz by Tickory Tock, a sister to Tick On. Hal Price Headley has a dangerous eligible in Technique, while Dr. J. Fred Adams Mintie and A C. Bostwicks Accent are well thought of. This is a representative field of the fillies -still in training and the renewal should be a thoroughly good one. Should all eighteen go to the post the prize will have a gross value of 0,040. The Maryland Handicap is at a mile and a quarter for three-year-olds and over, to which 0,000 is added and ten have been named. In this W. R. Coe is represented by his good filly Polonaise, a recent winner, and Osculator, while the other nominators will only have one eligible under silks. The high weights generally have declined and the top weight will be carried by the three-year-old Gallant Sir from Norman Churchs Northway Stable. His impost is 117 pounds. On his recent performance in the Laurel, in which he whipped Equipoise and only lost to Jack High by a nose, the son of Sir Galla-had III. is sure to have a big following. The Wheatley Stable is represented by Dark Secret and W. W: Vaughn has a worthy representative in Canron that has shown brilliant recent form. C. V. Whitneys Mad Frump, now at his best, is another worthy candidate, and Dr. Adams is well represented in Rehoboth. The other three are the Audley Farm Stables Late Date, Hal Price Headleys Village Vamp and the Brookmeade Stables Snap Back. Should all ten appear under silks the prize will have a gross value of 3,150. Indications are there will be fair weather and probably a fast track for the big day of week-end sport.
