MY PURCHASE EMPIRE WINNER Comes From Behind to Beat Capa city in Race for Three-Year-Olds. Irenes Bob, Favorite, Falters After "Reaching Lead and Is Unplaced Peacock Girl Successful on Heavy Track. NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 21. A six furlong dash for three-year-olds under claiming conditions was the best offering of the off-day program at Empire City. My Purchase, racking i for Mrs. Matt Colford and ridden by V Louis Schaefer, came from the rear of the pace- and at the finish had a two-length lead over Mrs. H. L. Cox Capacity, while John C. Clarks Haggerson was a tiring third. Eight i started in this and Irenes Bob was the one 3 most in demand. The latter did nolf break with his usual speed and it, was not until the : far turn was reached that he assumed the lead. When straightened out in the stretch Irenes Bob faltered badly and finished far back. A return to cloudy and cold weather had ; a depressing effect on the crowd and sheltered points from the sharp wind were in demand during the afternoon. The crowd was ah improvement over that of the preceding day, but the track was heavy and drying ; out. Racing on the whole was interesting. The start in the fourth race was none too good, and Capacity, Haggerson, Irenes Bob : and My Purchase were away forwardly but not clear in their strides. Capacity assumed command, and he had a brief advantage over Irenes Bob passing the half-mile post, with Haggerson on the inside in third place. My Purchase was racing fourth, while Wayr den and Regal Flag, which were away poorly, were leading the others. Rounding the stretch turn, Irenes Bob began to weaken, as did Capacity and Haggerson, and in. the stretch, My Purchase moved up with a rush. A furlong from the finish he had disposed of the leaders andthen drew clear. Capacity proved gamer than Haggerson and took the place by a half length, while Wishing Star came from far back to be a fast closing fourth. A spectacular finish came in the first race, when Maradadi, ridden by Jackie Long, wore down Zorana in the last strides. A nose finish separated Jesting and Careful Kitty for the short portion of the purse. T?he winner was accorded healthy support and at all times during the running was kept in nearest pursuit of the pace, which was established by Zorana. The latter was guided through on the inside all the way, but in saving ground raced through the stiffer going, while Long took Maradadi to the outside, where the footing was better. In a hard drive to the wire the daughter of Stimulus wore down Zorana and dropped her head in front in the last strides. Jesting and Careful Kitty in their turn staged a duel, with the former just lasting. Peacock Girl, racing for R. Lemma and ridden by F. Catrone, was a driving winner of the third race, a dash for two-year-old3 under claiming conditions. Mrs. T. R. Queens Mamas Choice raced to second place, while R. L. Gerrys Chance It was thirds The winner improved her position steadily from a slow beginning, came between the leaders turning for home and proved best in the. final drive. The start here was a good one and Oriley and Chance It were the ones to establish the early pace. Swinging for home Chance It bore out and lost some ground, while Oriley came again under pressure. In-the final eighth Mamas Choice and Peacock-Girl moved up gamely and, under urging, wore down the leaders ! and clear. then Peacock Girl proved best and drew
