Racing in the West reaches the end of the road for the 1932 season with the running of tomorrows program at Latonia. The season will close under the most unfavorable conditions experienced here in many years. A stiff, holding track is certain to prevail for the running of this final card, which features the Latonia Cup Handicap, at two miles and one-quarter, and only an unexpected change will prevent the day from bringing much the same cold, damp and dreary weather that prevailed today. Under such unpleasant conditions the finale will be nothing like enthusiasts had hoped for and the field of second flighters that will face the long, stiff grind of the Latonia Cup will encounter the toughest assignment of their careers. Thirteen were named for the closing feature through the regular proceedure this morning and while all will not start the long gallop will furnish an interesting race. Cee Tee, C. T. Fishers three-year-old, which was fourth in the Latonia Championship Stakes a week ago, will be among the withdrawals. Shortly after being named for the race this morning, he in some manner struck himself while in his stall and trainer C. Van Dusen said that it would be impossible for him to start. With Cee Tee out Royal Julian, winner of the cup in 1930, La Feria and Border Warrant are the more fashionable candidates. Others entered are Prince Reno, Ed Lark, Orchestration, Bob Bates, Our Cherrycote, Quando, Sharon, Petulant and Blind Hills. This race, inaugurated in 1884, this year was converted into late closing or "overnight" affair with no entry or starting fee. RIGGS HANDICAP FIELD j j BALTIMORE, Md., Nov. 11. For the final attraction of its fall meeting, which comes to a close tomorrow, the offering of the Maryland Jockey Club is the Riggs Handicap. This is 5. race of a mile and a half, for three-year-olds and over, to which 0,000 is added. It is a memorial to the late William P. Riggs, for many years secretary and directing genius of the Maryland Jockey Club. For this renewal ten of the eligibles have accepted the weights and it is a thoroughly representative field. Of these Sylvester W. Labrots great filly, Tred Avon, and A. C. Bostwicks Mate share the top weight, with the filly just having her sex allowance of three pounds over the colt, and both are six pounds below scale, with Mate taking up 120 and the filly 117 pounds. The Wheatley Stable is represented by Dark Secret, the three-year-old winner of the Bowie Handicap, and the four-year-old Blenheim, which has recently shown a return to good form. Dark Secret takes up 107 pounds and the Blenheim impost is 116, just ten under scale weight. Whitie Clover II., the imported gelding that races for William Dupont, is handicapped at 114 pounds and St. Brideaux will carry the silks of the Greentree Stable. This son of St. Germans is a rare stayer and appears to be in nicely at 113 pounds. Then there are the three-year-olds, Rehoboth and Evergold, Adolph Pons Mad Pursuit and Mrs. F. A. Carreauds good mare, Kincsen, to complete the field. Should there be no more rain before the running of the Riggs, the going should be fast and the ten named at the weights should make the renewal a thoroughly good one. With such a field the gross value of the prize will be 2,475.
