5 THE METROPOLITAN HANDICAP Equipoise and Questionnaire Clash in Todays Big Attraction at Belmont Park. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 2. With the Metropolitan Handicap, the Appleton Memorial Steeplechase and the Juvenile Stakes all down for decision at Belmont Park Saturday afternoon, the Westchester Racing Association offers one of its most notable programs. A return of fair weather and a fast track make it natural to expect that there will be ample atonement in the matter of conditions for miserable weather that marred Memorial Day. The Metropolitan Handicap, first run at old Morris Park in 1891, bids fair to be one of the outstanding races of the year. For the renewal of this famous mile race there is promised a meeting between C. V. Whitneys Equipoise and James Butlers Questionnaire, both previous winners of the coveted prize. Questionnaire was winner of the 1931 renewal, while last year the son of Pennant and Swinging triumphed. Both have shown a complete readiness, and these two alone assure a remarkable race. Equipoise has already proved himself this season by galloping off with the Philadelphia Handicap at Havre de Grace, and his training since that victory suggests that he is better now than he was that afternoon. Questionnaire has been prepared by trainer Johnson at the Yonkers course of the Empire City Association, and his final for the engagement leaves nothing to be desired. There are nine in all named for the Metropolitan, and with the weight advantage some of them enjoy over these great handicap horses, there should be abundant competition. The field for the Metropolitan follows: Probable Horse. Wt. Rider. Odds. Equipoise 128 Workman 4-5 Questionnaire . . .123 Coucci 4-1 Okapi 102 Bellizzi 10-1 Kerry Patch 110 Fator 20-1 Dark Secret 114 Malley 20-1 Brother Joe 114 Robertson 20-1 Scout Master 100 Hebert 50-1 Brandon Mint... 107 Jones 20-1 Pomponius 95 Fallon 15-1
