COMMITTEES FUND REPORT Eighty-Seven Needy Horsemen Extended Aid by Fair Grounds Relief Fund. Joseph A. Murphy, vice-president and general manager of the Crescent City Jockey Club, has received a report from F. P. Letel-lier, chairman, and P. N. Gravois, treasurer, of the committee that was appointed to distribute funds to the horsemen in need at the conclusion of the Fair Grounds meeting. It will be remembered tlat the association at an operating loss, extended its meeting for one week at the request of the horsemen, so that more money might be distributed and the distress relieved. The extension was granted with the understanding that fifteen per cent would be deducted from each purse and placed in a fund for distribution by a committee of horsemen, of which Mr. Letellier was chairman. The amount received from this was ,300. In the report submitted, it is shown that eighty-seven horsemen were aided through distribution of the fund, which was completely absorbed in the relief arrangement, leaving a balance of only fourteen cents in the bank. Much of this relief was in the shape of loans to horsemen temporarily embarrassed and when these amounts are paid back, the fund will either be kept intact for benevolent purposes among the horsemen or the money will be distributed to those who finished first, second and third in the races during the extension week. The names of the horsemen aided are not published as it might be a source of embarrassment to them but the records are in the office for any of those who contributed to the fund to check.
