1 HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES s J. F. Patterson, trainer of the Audley Farm, returned from Berryville, where he inspected the Audley yearlings, and conferred with Bernard B. Jones, master of the i extensive Audley Farms. Dixiaiias Our Sailor, a two-year-old, has been retired from racing for the year and sent to Dixiana Farm where he will be turned out. Seven head, consigned by the Audley Farm, comprise the more important vendue to be offered at the public sale of horses in training in the Hawthorne paddock at noon Saturday. The Audley Farm will dispose of Lazy Lad, Centennial, Sallyforth, American Queen, Urchin, Vinnoir and Seven Up. A half dozen others, variously owned, also will go under the hammer at this sale. Judge Joseph A. Murphy leaves Saturday for Detroit, where he will confer with the heads of the Detroit Racing Association and inspect the Fair Grounds track, where he will supervise the inaugural meeting of that association, which is scheduled to open on September 2. Judge Murphy returns here Monday morning. Albert Mott, former jockey and whose home is in Detroit, has been appointed custodian of the jockeys room at Detroit Fair Grounds for the coming meeting. Trainer E. L. Fitzgerald had N. W. Churchs Gallant Sir and Plucky Play out this morning for long trials in preparation for the 5,000 added Hawthorne Gold Cup, to be renewed on Thursday, August 24, and working in company they covered nine furlongs, for which Gallant Sir was timed in 1:55 and Plucky Play in 1:57. They were in hand throughout and the watches caught Gallant Sir in :49 for the half mile, in 1:15 for three-quarters and in 1:42 for the mile, while his stablemate went the half mile in :51, three-quarters in 1:18 and the mile in 1:44. Dixianas Far Star, winner of the Arlington Futurity and leading purse winning juvenile of the season, breezed three-quarters in 1:17. She was accompanied by Cc-nslant Wife and trained under the watchful eye of Clyde Van Dusen.
