MANIFOLD AURORA STAR The Break Scores in Geneva Purse With Blameless Second Young1 Apprentice Pilots Three of ofDays Days Winners Le Flore and andWhizz Whizz James Win AURORA 111 May 7 Mondays offering was of the offday caliber with the result performers of the claiming division were in demand for all seven races The best race on the card called the Geneva Purse and which occupied the feature position brought out seven of the useful type distance per ¬ formers which tested speed and stamina over the one mile and seventy yards route The Break a consistent winner for the Shipp McMaster establishment was the winner in a strenuous drive which lasted through the final threesixteenths and in which he proved gamer than Blameless which carried Mrs Rose Sullivans colors into second place while third went to Harned Bros Sambo Brown which led home Vin Noir Wishing Star Backward Never and King Pin which finished in the order named namedThe The result was a decided upset when Vin Noir Wishing Star and Backward Never which drew the bulk of support failed to finish among the placed horses while the winner was overlooked and paid 1798 for 2 2GOOD GOOD HORSEMANSHIP HORSEMANSHIPThis This was the second winn2r for apprentice H Manifold who had scored previously with Birthday Gift in the second race Blameless and King Pin went out to set the early pace and after racing head and head for a quarter the latter found the task too ex ¬ acting and gave way then Blameless dropped back as Sambo Brown was sent up with a rush The latter carried on with good cour ¬ age until he turned for home where there was a general closing up and The Break which had been under steadying reserve moved up with a rush and into the lead As Sambo Brown relinquished the lead Blameless moved to the fore and drew up on even terms with the winner but after a brief period The Break drew out gradually and crossed the line of finish half a length to the good Blameless continued in second place to close with a threelength margin over Sambo Brown Vin Noir and Wishing Star both folded up after attaining forward positions but Backward Never failed to be a factor from the start startApprentice Apprentice Hank Manifold won his third race when he piloted Run On to a nose vic ¬ tory in the sixth race reaching the end in advance of Annan which downed Jim Or mont for place honors honorsThis This marked a double for the Shipp McMasters stable which had furnished the winner of the fifth race in The Break Not taking any credit irom Manifold who rode the winner a faulty ride by apprentice Rollins aided materially in the victory when he had Jim Ormont all over the track dur ¬ ing the six furlongs and with better han ¬ dling he probably would have won off and would have done so regardless if the dis ¬ tance had been a sixteenth farther fartherA A good offday crowd was on hand to view the sport which was conducted over a fast track trackKEESTERS KEESTERS HUSTLING RIDE RIDEClarence Clarence E Davison sent another winner postward when his Whizz James under a hustling ride by apprentice Paul Keester scored in clever fashion in the fourth race which engaged six of the better grade sprinters for a test over five and onehalf furlongs The winner displayed superiority throughout the race and after indulging Jacobs Ladder in the lead for half the journey went to the front with a rush and it only required mild pressure to maintain his position and cross the line four lengths to the good goodJustice Justice B which seems to have a new lease on life since coming here was the one to race to second place and accomplished that feat after coming from behind the pace The performance of Fitkin in this was a disappointment to his followers for after beginning in front he was soon outpaced then forced back sharply when Premedi ¬ tate came over turning out of the back stretch stretchLe Le Flore aged son of Sir Barton gave evi ¬ dence of a return to the form which enabled him to win fifteen races last year His per ¬ formance today was one of the fastest of the meeting when he ran the five and one Continued on twentysixth page MANIFOLD AURORA STAR gave him a clever ride rideUnder Under more alert handling on this oc ¬ casion Dauntless Miss made a show of her rivals in the second race when after beat ¬ ing the gate she never came out of a pull to win well in hand by four lengths The weakly ridden Chief Geronimo was closest to the victress when they finished the three quarters then came Farmer Bob which was as good as left to account for third money moneyBirthday Birthday Gift made an auspicious debut for his Illinois season by trouncing nine others that started over threequarters in the third race Hacing into a clear lead the winner gave a good speed performance and maintained his position with gameness when he repulsed the challenge of Aurica which moved up tc him at the eighth post and after subduing her drew away to win by a length The latter making her first start since last fall furnished strong con ¬ tention for the winner but failed to meet the demands through lack of fitness and just lasted to withstand the rush of Irfaneh which carr2 from behind to take third
