May 7 Dartle three yearold son of Dodge stood in the way of victory for Burgoo King at the finish of the Frankfort Purse the principal offering at Churchill Downs today It was Burgoo Kings first appearance with the colors up since the Withers Stakes of 1932 out of which the E R Bradley homebred winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes of that year emerged in bad condi ¬ tion tionDartle Dartle racing for Frederick M Burton of Chicago and filling his second engagement of the year won handily by two lengths Sallie Gray a good filly carrying the racing silks of Mrs William E Smith finished third leading in order Thataway Dust Girl Gift of Roses Princess Camelia and Rock X XThe The winner one of the leading western candidates for the American Derby Arling ¬ ton Classic Detroit Derby and other three yearold fixtures came from behind a fast pace entering the stretch and though not seriously endangerer was giving his best to hold Burgoo King at a safe distance as the sprint drew to a close The Bradley five yearold had to follow a course near the center of the track and with such a speedy foe as the winner could not overcome the big loss of ground Burgoo groundBurgoo King led Sallie Gray which three yearold daughter of Crusader gave a strik ¬ ing account of herself by a good length with Thataway three lengths further back After setting a fast pace to the stretch Dust Girl tired while Gift of Roses and Princess Camelia were well out of the real contest during the stretch run runWRIGHT WRIGHT SUSPENDED SUSPENDEDOn On report of the steward at the start Wayne Wright who rode the winner his sec ond of the day was suspended for five days Wright brought Dartle over on several in the reportThe field according to the report The Everglade colt to within a few strides of the finish where Humphries whereHumphries almost fell off in a frantic but belated maneuver astride the Ernst young ¬ ster Vance furnished by C C Van Meter finished third one length and a half back and four before Sora SoraPRINCE PRINCE SULIEMAN AGAIN Prince Sulieman raced to his second vic ¬ tory in as many starts during the meeting when he was good enough to outsprint Pat C Ladykin Salut DArnour Sister Zoe and others over the six and onehalf furlong dis tance in the second Sent into immediate command and aided by clever rating the winner carried on to win by one length and onehalf as Pat C which was in second place after the first quarter held Ladykin out of the runnerup position by a length Vigorously ridden dur ing the early stages Sister Zoe failed to rally for the stretch drive and was not much of bestThe a threat where she usually runs her best The most decisive winner of the meeting turned up in the third race when the Boot to Boot filly Bartering Kate rolled in with a six lengths margin over Rolanda the latter leading Chirac and six others After following Rolanda and Chirac to the stretch the winner sprinted to the front and on to pinched back in the stretch no doubt was a factor in the final position of the two Wise Dream was fourth fourthOccult Occult ridden by Wayne Wright finished iu front in a field of plater threeyearolds in the fourth race also over the three quarters distance Wright directed the win ¬ ner over a zigzagging course in the stretch where Bardstown which eventually went down by a length loomed dangerous and with a clear run Bardstown might have overtaken the M Goldblatt filly Minor honors were bestowed upon Sir Jacob with Scrip Money a nose back backOccult Occult prevailed in an easy lead to the stretch where Bardstown which had been snugged along over the early furlongs soon forced her to a drive and but for the swerv ¬ ing which forced Bardstown far out In the track there might have been a different result
