DISPUTE OVER JOCKEY FEES Aurora Eiders Protest When At ¬ tempt Is Made to Follow Illinois Racing Commission Rule AURORA 111 May 7 Another Illinois racing commission rule that no one had noticed in plowing through the seventyfive page book of regulations that relating to the amounts to be paid jockeys bobbed up before the first race this afternoon to cause a momentary dispute disputeIt It has been the custom at Aurora to pay jockeys 10 for a losing mount and 25 for a winner and as the book of commission rules had not been published when jockeys began to come to Aurora they assumed that the same scale would prevail The 10 and 25 scale was followed for the first week but Saturday one owner delved into the rule book and showed a commission regulation that in races worth less than 500 to the winning horse the jockey fees should be only 5 for a loser and 15 for a winner winnerFew Few claiming races at Aurora or any other track are worth more than 500 to the win ¬ ner this season so it looked as though jockeys would have to take a reduction Naturally they protested and conferred with presiding steward John T Ireland and com ¬ missioner Chris FitzGerald FitzGeraldAn An agreement was reached whereby the matter will be put up to the racing com ¬ mission with the stewards promising to present the riders side of the case The fees paid last week will stand and the 1025 scale will continue in effect until the matter has been adjudicated
