LATONIA PROGRAM ORDINARY Lonell and Cayuga Thrill Patrons With Duel From Start Simon in Form Reversal in Sixth Race Apprentice Taylor Astride Three ThreeWinners Winners LATONIA Ky June 22 One of the most ordinary programs of the meeting was of ¬ fered patrons at Latonia Friday afternoon the seven races bringing out only the cheaper grade of horses The fifth race distinguished from others by the title the Triplet Creek Purse served as a feature but it did little to attract the faithful for only a small crowd was on hand handThe The race how ever did result in a thrill ¬ ing finish with Lonell f rom the racing es ¬ tablishment of Gibson Day beating the Shady Brook Farms veteran Cayuga by a head From the start to the finish of the six furlongs race never more than half a length separated these two twoLonell Lonell began in front but Cayuga quickly went to the front to set the pace and main ¬ tained his lead to the stretch Here R Fin nerty aboard Cayuga carried Lonell ex ¬ tremely wide but the latter proved himself a better horse by overcoming this handicap and outgaming the Shady Brook gelding in a gruelling finish finishThese These two had the race all to themselves with Pantaloons finishing third four lengths behind the flying leaders The others were never close up upThe The winner ridden by H Louman was the betting choice choiceOne One of the sharpest form reversals of the meeting was produced with the running of the sixth race in which C V Whitneys Simon came through with one of his best races and one much in contrast with his previous ones in which he was held at short odds and failed dismally Today Simon raced into a long lead after the start and instead of quitting kept going and at such a pace that he finished with eight lengths to spare over Lady of Grace his nearest opponent David W garnered the third award awardThe The winner completed a triple for appren ¬ tice D Taylor TaylorLillian Lillian Uhl owned by W F Axton of Louisville won the first race on the card a sprint of five and onehalf furlongs for maiden fillies twoyearolds and she left lit ¬ tle doubt as to her superiority She took a threelengths lead before going a quarter and steadily increased her margin until at the finish she was six lengths in front frontByrdine Byrdine was the object of some heavy play and making the upper turn moved up as if she might prove dangerous but she tired after reaching the stretch and the best she could do was to run third Lucy took place money Elegant Miss showed some early speed but tired badly in the late stages of the race raceMose Mose Goldblatts Gilbert Elston second in each of his last five starts finally entered the winners circle in the second race beat ¬ ing a fair band of sprinters over six furlongs Slow to begin Gilbert Elston raced around his rivals at the head of the stretch and won going away by two lengths Ridge Blond was second a head in front of Rettef RettefRolanda Rolanda was first to set the pace but before going a quarter Roulade took com ¬ mand and she in turn relinquished the lead at the head of the stretch to Rettef The latter held sway to the sixteenth post where Gilbert Elston and Ridge Blond both passed him The winner was a wellbacked fa ¬ vorite D Taylor rode him himThe The third race which brought together eleven twoyearolds fell to G C Hughes Cerro and the son of Wildair and La Mon tagne proved himself to be much the best Away slowly Cerro worked his way up through the big field was fourth entering the stretch and then drove on to victory by two and onehalf lengths lengthsMary Mary T had the early speed and held a lead until the field was far into the stretch where she began to tire succumbing to the winners rush in the last sixteenth Mary T had all she could do to hold second place a head in front of Empress Wu which in turn was only a head in front of Cynwyd at the wire Pokeaway and Parr Boy were among the leaders during the early part of it but both tired A long delay at the post was caused by the winner and Gobet
