BIG CROWD AT DETROIT International Rotary Club Members Guests of the Management Convention Crowd Responsible for forLargest Largest WeekDay Attendance of ofMeeting1 Meeting1 Morsun Makes Good DETROIT Mich June 27 Despite the absence of a feature the largest weekday crowd of the meeting was present at the Fair Grounds track of the Detroit Racing Association this afternoon The eightrace program honored the International Rotary Clubs which are holding their annual con ¬ vention in Detroit and more than 2000 of these leaders of the business world were the guests of the management managementQuickly Quickly recovering from the torrential rain that fell early Tuesday morning the track was at its best and although the weather was quite warm there was a re ¬ freshing breeze to make conditions com ¬ fortable The largest gathering however experienced great trouble in selecting the winners and when the Lone Star Stables Morsun drove down in front of five others in the fifth race it was the closest the form players came to selecting a winner Second went to the Odessa Farms Detroitowned Muslet with Mrs H Howards Timorous third thirdWhile While the finish found Morsun slightly more than a length before Muslet Dronet rode an overconfident race and he was forced to shake up the winner in the last stages to repulse the belated challenge of Muslet MusletMorsun Morsun and Style Corner shared favor ¬ itism and while the former took command shortly after the start Style Corner received little help from R Cochrane for after en ¬ joying third position for three furlongs Cochrane allowed him to drop out of con ¬ tention tentionUNDER UNDER STRONG PRESSURE PRESSUREAlthough Although Muslet was the first under way the filly dropped back when the winner and More Anon went out to show the way After leaving the back stretch Muslet moved into third place and when More Anon gave up the chase she supplanted him at forcing the pace Near the final furlong L Dronet began to ease up the winner and in the final stages when Muslet offered her serious bid he was forced to put Morsun under strong pressure Always in a contending position but forced to lose ground on the far turn Timorous finished in fine style and was much the best of the others othersThe The sixth race named the International Rotary Claiming Purse and cofeature with the fifth resulted in another surprise and a close finish when the improved Miss Purray beat the highly regarded Midshipman a neck for the major portion of the purse Unencumbered was third Seven started at a mile the first of the afternoon at a dis ¬ tance more than six furlongs While the win ¬ ner led the field to the back stretch Joe Jacobs allowed Manners to take command when he challenged nearing the close of the half mile Shortly afterward however Miss Purray again went into command and while she carried Manners Don Vern and Ladykin wide entering the stretch Midship ¬ man came through on the inside During the final furlong the winner and Midship ¬ man raced in close order with Miss Purray maintaining her slight advantage to the fin ¬ ish Unencumbered like the favorite lucky to escape the interference came with a rush to be a half length back of Midshipman and a head before Ladykin LadykinMAKV MAKV MAKES GOOD Charles T Fishers Detroitowned Dixiana Stable furnished another winner when Marv made good at the first asking At the end of the five furlongs dash which served as the introductory race the son of Mars and Mary V was much the best of Sun Lure the favored Finikin and nine other maiden juveniles juvenilesGeorge George Woolf had the victor close to the pace of Sun Lure and Hannah Anne in the run to the far turn and lucky to escape the jam that eliminated several of the others Marv forged to the front after reaching the stretch At the end he was two lengths be ¬ fore Sun Lure which beat Finikin by a length and a half While Marv paid 4 to 1 in the wagering Sun Lure was a 50 to 1 shot Finikin recovered rapidly after the interference while Imperial Bunty was shuf ¬ fled back backBetty Betty Wee registered her first score of the year when she got up to beat Black Song a neck at the end of the six and she headed Black Son midway of the stretch and held the latter safe in the drive While Chatterdoo was always closest to the pace Scotch Pepper a 3 to 2 favorite was forced to work his way forward and was closing stoutly at the end endAnother Another mild surprise came with the third race when Dark pianne scored the first victory of the meeting for the Connie Symthe stable Second went to Imperial Jack with Pish Tush the best of the eight other maiden twoyearolds that contested the five furlongs furlongsThe The daughter of Display and Annarella was never far back of the pace of Hidden Dust and Imperial Jack and nearing the final threesixteenths she forged to the front to lead Imperial Jack by a length and a half at the finish Dokas which came from far back to finish in fourth position was equal choice with Imperial Jack JackBurgoo Burgoo grouped in the mutuel field with Thistle Wise and Royal Purchase carried Mrs A Manales colors to a driving victory over Two Tricks Princeton and nine other platers of the lowly grade that started in the fourth race Beginning from the extreme outside position the winner was rushed into a short lead with Princeton his nearest competitor to the final furlong where Two Tricks moved up with a rush to be a length back of the victor and the same margin the best of Princeton the tiring favorite
