BIG DAY AT ARLINGTON Mutuel Handle Record for Week Day During Current Meeting Big Beau Scores Second Consecutive ConsecutiveVictory Victory for H P Headley Jockey Kacala Stars ARLINGTON HEIGHTS 111 July 26 Racing to his second consecutive victory Hal Price Headleys Big Beau defeated four other milers in the Fort Sheridan Handicap at Arlington Park this afternoon William Sachsenmaiers Chartres finished second a length and a half back and threequarters of a length in advance of the Audley Farms Late Date Bien Fait and Play Hooky com ¬ pleted the field fieldA A return of cooler weather brought out one of the largest weekday crowds of the meeting and the betting was so brisk as to set a record for the season outside of Sat ¬ urdays and holidays holidaysThe The track was a trifle dull from yester ¬ days shower but Big Beau did not seem to mind as he raced over the eight furlongs in 137 under the direction of jockey Earl Steffen The veteran son of Supremus and Big Sis was well supported and his triumph was a popular one in view of the fact that outsiders had been successful in most of the previous events eventsSteffen Steffen got Big Beau away fast but he Immediately allowed the horse to settle into his stride as Bien Fait went out to set the pace closely attended by Late Date Char ¬ tres moved along in third place with Big Beau fourth as Steffen bided his time Play Hooky lacked speed from the start and was always far back backCOMPETE COMPETE FOR LEAD LEADFor For slightly more than a half mile Bien Fait and Late Date went along heads apart but reaching the far turn Steffen called on the Headley veteran and he responded readily to move up fast on the outside In the run around the turn Big Beau got on even terms with the two leaders and as the field swept into the stretch he took com ¬ mand mandIn In the early stages in the stretch BigBeau drew away easily and thereafter Steffen took him in hand so that he could have won by a greater margin had his rider wished Bien Fait tired after being headed and Chartres came with a rush to wear down Late Date for second place but without menacing the Headley horse horseJockey Jockey J Kacala rode his third winner when he guided the Audley Farm Stables Bright Shadow to a well earned victory in the Park Ridge Purse chief supporting number on the days card and which was the second of the day for the popular col ¬ ors of B B Jones who scored with Danc ¬ ing Doll in the second race Dusky Devil under a powerful ride by Sonny Work ¬ man finished second while third went to J E Wideners Fairsickle which finished in front of Jens Son Sir Ten and Anarchy which completed the six furlongs in the mentioned order orderDUSKY DUSKY DEVIL THREATENS THREATENSKacala Kacala had the winner in front soon after the start but once in the van maintained the coveted position throughout but her task was a strenuous one for Dusky Devil was at her saddle skirts throughout and when Workman subjected the latter to strong punishment he made a slight gain and it appeared as if he was going to over ¬ take the winner She proved the gamer however by repulsing him and was gradu ¬ ally increasing her margin in the final stages Sir Ten which came in for con ¬ siderable support ruined his chances at the start when he failed to leave with the others and was far out of contention during the early stages However he made up some ground but his tardy beginning was too groat a disadvantage to overcome overcomeToro Toro Blue and apprentice Paul Keester formed a winning combination in the first race which engaged ten juveniles for a test of five and onehalf furlongs Three parts of a length back and in second place came Brilliant Queen an outsider while third fell to Early Dawn the favorite The winner began a trifle sluggish and failed to make an appreciable gain until the field had tra ¬ versed half the distance rounding the turn she responded gamely to punishment and filing by the leaders one by
