MISS WISE WINS AGAIN Daughter of Wise Counsellor Easily Best in Detroit Feature Steady Drizzle Slows Up Fair FairGrounds Grounds Track Uptodate and andCampagna Campagna Winners DETROIT Mich July 26 Miss Wise a daughter of Wise Counsellor and Delico which races for Ferguson Hawkins Georgetown Ky breeders and a recent graduate from the maiden twoyearold ranks scored her second straight victory of the meeting by accounting for the fourth race principal attraction of a program con ¬ sisting of claiming races offered at the Fair Grounds this afternoon At the end of the five and a half furlongs C S Bancrofts Dokas was second slightly more than a length back of the winner and a half a length before the Elmtree Stables Footwork making his first start startAlthough Although heavy showers fell in the down ¬ town section during the early morning hours and again later only light drizzles fell at the course The track was at its best for the opening of the program but after the first race a steady drizzle slowed up the track and it was classified as good for the running of the feature featureThere There was little delay at the start of the fourth and once aligned the field went away in good order with Critchfield send ¬ ing the Wise Counsellor filly into the lead immediately In the run to the far turn she established a long lead with Jake Blieden holding the same advantage over the others Dokas was following the pace under restraint and as the field swept into the stretch Dokas began to shorten the dis ¬ tance between him and the leaders leadersFOOTWORK FOOTWORK FINISHES FAST FASTIn In the final furlong where Jake Blieden began to tire rapidly Dokas reached second position Sensing the approaching chal ¬ lenge Critchfield went to a drive with the winner and he had her under a drive at the finish After his strong bid Jake Blie ¬ den tired fast while Footwork which was outrun hi the dash to the stretch saved ground at the last turn and was running strongest of all at the end endWith With the exception of Maple Ricca which held fourth position during the first qarter the others failed to menace the leaders leadersOver Over the soft track Miss Wise ran the distance in 108 and was a 3 to 2 choice choiceA A mild surprise came with the running of the fifth race when Mrs A M Creechs Chief Daunt was a driving winner Gracious Gift was second with Kalola third thirdCharlie Charlie Parvin rushed the victor into com ¬ mand soon after the start and he raced into a three lengths lead in the run to tho stretch stretchChief Chief Daunt tired in the final quarter but lasted to beat the fast finishing Gracious Gift a half length while Kalola failed to withstand Gracious Gift Scream which came in for the greatest support was never prominent prominentCAMPAGNA CAMPAGNA SURPRISES SURPRISESCampagna Campagna furnished a mild surprise when he drove down to victory over Sequoia Merely and five others that contested the second race which was decided during a drizzling rain rainThe The winner away fast disposed of Albane after threeeighths and after attaining a clear lead in the run to the stretch held on well as Sequoia charged in the final six ¬ teenth Albane weakened and was beaten a half length by Merely for the minor award The latter was a half length back of Sequoia SequoiaWaldo Waldo Freeman saddled another winner for the Fishburn Stable when Max Way ac ¬ counted for the third race Scout Chief was second a nose before the lightly re ¬ garded Axial AxialEight Eight started over the threequarters with Axial talking command soon after the start and racing into a commanding lead in the first quarter He maintained that advan ¬ tage to the stretch with Exhibition and Hammel fighting it out for minor honors At the end of the first fiveeighths Axial and Hammel began to tire as the winner and Scout Chief came with their belated challenges While Max Way drew away to a twolength advantage at the end Scout Chief which enjoyed favoritism was put to strong pressure in outf inishing Axial for second honors
