0HARA FOR "DAILY DOUBLE" I General Manager Decides Public Wants Popular Form of Wagering j at Narragansett Park. PROVIDENCE, R. I., April 16. "There i will be a Daily Double at Narragansett this summer," announced Walter E. OHara on his return from a flying trip through Maryland and the Blue Grass country. "At Bowie race track I observed interest in this form of wagering growing so rapidly that it overshadowed all others. We had thousands of inquiries for it last year at Narragansett, but at that time I couldnt quite see it. Now I am satisfied the fans want it and they shall have it." Commencing on Narragansetts opening day, June 19, and continuing throughout the three meetings, the "Daily. Double" will be operated on the first and third races. Tickets will be sold at a special cashier.s window, opening one and one-half hours before the first race and closing ten minutes before post time. All tickets will be of the ?2 denomination. The pool for the "Double" is kept entirely separate from the regular race pools that are flashed on the big electric "tote" board, and the prices paid the lucky winners are calculated by the simple method of dividing the total "Double" pool, after ten per cent has been deducted, by the number of dollars invested on the combination winners of the first and third races. Picking the "Daily Double" is a fascinating problem that provides a lot of fun and excitement, with the minimum of risk. At the southern tracks this winter, people came , early and worked out their selections. Many big hits were made when outsiders came up. On numerous occasions a investment on the "Double" has brought better than ,000, while on one occasion, at Tropical Park, a New Jersey truck driver, hit the "Double" with a lucky "two spot" to the tune of ,456. The "Double" will be a popular attraction at the Rhode Island .plant this season.
