BONANZA WINS BY A NECK Gets Up in Final Strides to Defeat Miney Myerson Sonny Workman in Brilliant Biding Form Format at New York Dark Wizard WizardBig Big Surprise NEW YORK N Y June 14 Bonanza j that races for William Ziegler Jr was win ner of the best offering at Aqueduct Friday It was only a claiming affair and over the six and a half furlong route but it brought out those of that quality and resulted in a good finish when the winner slipping through on the inside won over G W Ogles Miney Myerson with Mrs Robert H Heighes Zay just saving third from Gran nys Trade TradeWhile While only overnight races were offered It was a good day of sport for another big crowd that was out at the course of the Queens County Jockey Club while the weather and track conditions could not be improved upon uponIn In this sprint that brought out the best field Sammy Renick beat the start with Zay and she shot away from her stall with a big advantage Then Renick took hold of her head and steadied her as Polycletus came alongside with a great burst of speed The Maxwell Howard gelding was rushed out by Malley until he was three lengths clear and Miney Myerson also raced by Zay to take second place Grannys Trade was back of these and then came Lady Higloss and Help Me MePolycletus Polycletus was still showing the way by plenty of daylight as the stretch was reached and a furlong out he looked a sure winner Miney Myerson was hanging on well but apparently could not run the latter down and the others followed in a fairly close bunch Bonanza had the position on the rail and in that last furlong as Poly ¬ cletus suddenly collapsed he slipped through to challenge Miney Myerson Finishing with excellent courage he took care of the Ogle campaigner to win going away by a neck neckMiney Miney Myerson was three lengths before Zay and she in turn barely lasted to beat Grannys Trade for third Polycletus after his pacemaking quit so utterly he finished last of the small field fieldSonny Sonny Workman who never rode in bet ¬ ter form than this season had much to do with the result of the Cherry Grove a five furlong dash for juveniles when his power ¬ ful finish landed Mrs Louise Viaus Conquer the winner in a close finish over Curtis Kings Glory Greenock and at the heels of the pair third went to Aroused from the Howe Stable StableFrom From a good start Aroused was the one to show the most speed and as he dashed to the front from an outside position Merritt crossed with him slightly Glory Greenock was in the front division and Conquer was back of these and racing well in the middle of the course courseIt It was not until well around the elbow that Aroused tired and Glory Greenock went to the front but by that time Workman was charging along outside of her with Conquer Glory Greenock hung on with excellent courage but Litzenberger was no match for Workman in the final drive and it was Con ¬ quer that finished in front Aroused was a good third and Sobriety which raced for A G Vanderbilt finished fourth fourthConquers Conquers victory chalked a riding double for Workman for in the first race it was his ride that had much to do with the victory of Dark Wizard over Inflame InflameThe The opening fivefurlong dash for maiden juveniles brought a great finish with three heads on the post G H Bostwicks Dark Wizard just beating Philip Biebers In ¬ flame and Thomas B Gays Deep Run was lapped on the pair of them Sentry taking fourth fourthThis This was an upset of calculations for Inflame on some fast trials was the tip in the race and was heavily backed He almost made good for his backers and it was only the powerful finish of Sonny Work ¬ man on the Bostwick maidem that brought the upset Leaving the stalls running In ¬ flame dashed into a lead of three lengths and he still enjoyed that advantage as he rounded the elbow of the course courseGlenbrobm Glenbrobm was racing in second place arid it was not until inside the final fur ¬ long that either seemed in particular dan ¬ ger There Inflame tired badly while Glen broom weakened and there was a general closing up with Workman staging his pow ¬ erful ride that brought victory Deep Run also closed with determination and he too would have been beaten the good thing in a few more strides stridesW W E Martin sent out a good maiden when he saddled Bocasette in the six and a half furlongs of the third It was for maiden threeyearolds and the son of Upset Syas making his first start of the year He was backed with confidence by a select few at a long price1 and the result was never in doubt John Sanfords Action made a show of the fencers that met in the short course of the Helter Skelter Steeplechase when he breezed along in front all the way to win in hand Earnings from the Greentree Stable took second place by a wide margin and Mrs G Whitneys No Frills ridden by the ama ¬ teur J N Theodore saved third from Ire lands Eye one that raced for F Ambrose Clark The only other starter was Duncan H Reads Dundrillin and he was badly out ¬ run all the way wayJockey Jockey Sonny Workman euchered him ¬ self out of a triple when he gave up the mount on Hermie Roy to Johnny Gilbert in the last race of the day Workman wished to allow himself more time to make the plane for Detroit and canceled the mount after the fifth race Gilbert was then called into action and Hermie Roy under his guidance led home Grainger and Flaming Mamie The winner was close up throughout and when called upon irifthHsttfilch shook offromtosi J v drewWari tion and
