As in his last three successes West Main was handled by the diminutive veteran Johnny Longden and the latter had to exert himself considerably through the stretch as Dusky Devil and Bold Lover held on in determined fashion against the onslaught of the Peck colorbearer which ruled favorite with a fair sized crowd in attendance attendanceThe The race was the first of the meeting for West Main as far as a mile and in the run down the back stretch he was held under stout restraint vhile moving along next the rail Pompous Genie showed the most early speed but Bold Lover and Dusky Devil were in close attendance while Spicson brought up the rear among the five starters startersOn On the turn where Bold Lover went to the front with Dusky Devil at his heels Long den eased West Main back so as to guide him to the outside Once clear the Peck gelding began moving up steadily and shortly after entering the stretch he was lapped with Bold Lover and Dusky Devil The trio raced almost as a team to the finish with West Main asserting his superiority in the final sixteenth under punishment Dusky Devil barely wrested the place from Bold Lover while Spicson was far back in fourth place The mile was
