MINERS ASK WAGE INCREASE The United Mine Workers of America sub ¬ mitted a proposal on Thursday to the Illi nois coal operators for a twoyear contract calling for five days a week with a total of thirty hours per week instead of the pres ¬ ent thirtyfive hours They also desire an increase of fifty cents per day from 500 to 550 The owners have taken the pro ¬ posals under advisement and were to offer a counter proposal on June 14
