1 AQUEDUCT TURF NOTES $ ■ — • Stake blanks for the Ohio State Derby were received here Saturday and nominations close June 29. The race will be run at Thistle Down July 6. George W. Bull of the Saratoga associa tion stated Saturday that the front stretch, which was recently resurfaced, was drenched by four days of rain and the new soil absorbed the water in perfect condition. John Hogan returned from Narragansett Park, where he turned over the division of the Ascot Stable that he raced at Belmont Park. The transferring of the steeplechase to the opening event found favor with the regulars and horsemen, and it is possible that the idea may be carried out in the future. Miss Judy Johnson, second woman to receive a trainers license in New York state, becomes the first to send a thoroughbred to the post over a metropolitan track. Lativich, a son of Blandford, sire of four English Derby winners, owned and trained by Miss Johnson, was started in the seventh race Saturday. The Brookmeade Stables Cavalcade, apparently as sound as ever, after his mishap at the start of the Suburban Handicap, worked six furlongs over the Belmont ParH track in 1:15 Saturday morning.
