BRILLIANT BABY had the most early speed and, sprinting to the front soon after the start, drew away from ROYAL CHEF after entering the stretch to win as her rider pleased. RAHWAY, well up from the start, improved his position in the stretch and was going gamely at the finish. HELENE MADISON came fast in the middle of the track in the stretcli to outfinish ROYAL CHEF. The latter acted badly at the post, broke quickly from outside the stall gate and showed good speed to the stretch, then tired as if short. FORGET NOT, CHILLA LEE and SAN JOSE dropped back when the real racing began. MAEANTIC and TUBAC were taken up at the start bv their timid riders and had little chance. Scratched 24257 Hobnail, 108. DROMBO, closest to MAD JOSS in the early running, moved up steadily on the outside of the latter after entering the stretch and, racing strongly to the finish, won in a drive. MAD JOSS-dashed to the front early to open up a good lead and raced gamely to the end. BARANCA could never get to the leaders, but held third place safe. MERELY made up ground steadily on the inside and was racing nicely at the finish. HATTIE MAE and DON MARCUS could never get to the leaders and tired in the stretch. Scratched 24298:MoraIe, 115. SAN RAMON raced well from the start, moved up steadily when urged and raced gamely to the end. LITTLE LAD opened up a good lead .in the early stages, but tired in the stretch and barely lasted to save third place. INSTIGATOR, close up from the start, lost hs chance when his lider attempted to get through on the inside of BATTLING KNIGHT, rounding the far turn and was shut off. INDIAN BROOM took a prominent position rounding the first turn, moved up steadily on the outside of OPEN RANGE rounding the stretch turn and, passing the latter when straightened for home, drew away in the final eighth. SLAPPED liked the going, was never far from the pace and finished well. OPEN RANGE took a long lead in the early running, but tired badly in the stretch. CRETE saved ground where possible in the early stages and was racing gamely at the end. JOVIUS was badly outrun in the early stages and, though closing some ground in the stretch, was never a serious contender. NILUS was interfered with by OPEN RANGE at the start. EASY SAILING was in close quarters going to the first turn. Won ridden out; second and third driving, PROPAGANDIST was ciosc up under stout restraint in the early running, came to the outside of PASS UP in the stretch to move to the front and won under a hand ride. PASS UP cut in front of the field rather sharply going to the first turn to take a good lead and raced well thereafter, but could not resist the winner. GRAYBACK saved ground where possible in the early stages and laced fairly well to the end. MERRY GO ROUND was forced to take up slightly when PASS UP came over after the start and, though finishing well, lost his chance when he was shut off while trying to get through on the inside of GRAYBACK after leaving the back stretch. ACCORDER, probably best, saved ground for five-eighths, was then rushed into contention close to the winner, was taken in hand again approaching the stretch turn and permitted to drop back, then came gamely when urged in the stretch, but was permitted to bear out near the finish and could not get up. BALLYHOO was never far from the pace and raced well to the end. SILVA closed much ground to show an improved effort. EIGHTH POLE closed ground. NAPPUS and BROAD ROYAL tired.
