PROMISING YOUNG JOCKEY Homer Ferguson, 19 -Year-Old Kentucky Boy, Attracting Attention at Arlington Downs. i j ARLINGTON, Texas, April 6. One of the newer riding personalities at Arlington Downs is Homer Ferguson, 19-year-old Kentucky youngster, who recently arrived at the "Waggoner track from New Orleans, where he rode thirty horses during the final week at the Fair Grounds meeting and finished in the money with all but one. Coached by Frank Swain, who is credited with starting Lester "Duke" Balaski on the road to fame as a knight of the pigskin, Ferguson, who weighs 100 pounds, is said, to possess a bright future in jockey ranks, and for a beginner, he rode his first winner on Frank Grands Justice F. at New Orleans, he has considerable promise. Apprenticed to R. A. Coward, Ferguson will be astride Julia Grant, Heart Break, Haggerson, Moving Clouds, Irish Cutie and Pantaur, all useful thoroughbreds. It will be remembered that Homer Spears, who lost his life in New Orleans as a result of a fall from Julia Grant, also rode his first winner on the same animal. Ferguson rode two doubles during the Fair Grounds meeting, one of which paid 00, and in the first two weeks of the Crescent City meeting rode fifty thoroughbreds.
