GERTIE, under restraint in the early part, came fast when ready in the last quarter to wear down CENTER LANE in the stretch and win narrowly. CENTER LANE, prominent from the start, came strongly to head the field in the last eighth and, hard ridden to the end, barely missed. UNCLE FRED was permitted to drop out of it in the early running, raced around the field while making his move and would have been dangerous under more alert handling. TORO MAK tired in the stretch. DEER FLY was done after going three-quarters. PROPAGANDIST, taken up soon after the start, dropped far out of it and pulled up slightly lame. Scratched 24795 Chief Almgren, 111. LADY FLORISE also raced forwardly, took a short lead in the stretch and held on well. SKIPTON made the eaily pace but tired when challenged. PLUCKY JACK was permitted to drop far out of it in the early part, raced in the middle of the track while making his move and closed gamely on his own courage. OUR CAROLYNE tired. TOP ROW, in close quarters on the inside of THURSDAY rounding the first turn, was eased back of the latter then came strongly to again catch THURSDAY after going a half mile and made a game effort to overtake the winner in the stretch but tired badly near the finish and would have been beaten for second place in a few more strides. AZUCAR was badly outrun to the last quarter then came fast under hard riding. THURSDAY, close up in the early runninc, dropped back when the real racing liesan. DISTRIBUTE moved to the front around the far turn to open up a good lead in the stretch and although saving ground could not resist the winner. CANNY SCOT tired in the run home.
