HOLLYROOD IN GOOD WORK Second Choice for Kentucky Derby Goes Mile and an Eighth in 1 :58. Bold Venture, Memory Book, Tintagel, Teu fel and Granville Among Others Under the Saddle. NEW YORK, N. Y., April 13. Despite the rain and mud which prevailed at the local tracks yesterday morning, several impressive moves by candidates for the Wood Memorial and Kentucky Derby were recorded. Holly-rood, second choice in the Kentucky classio and outstanding choice for the Wood Memorial was brought out on the track at Belmont Park-and called upon for a mile and a furlong test. The colt acquitted himself in handy fashion and galloped through the fetlock deep slop in easy fashion and finished out in 1:58 with speed in reserve. The first part of the trip was at a steady pace and the four furlongs were timed in :48 seconds. The five furlongs in 1:01 and the six furlongs in 1:14. At this point Bee Line, which worked with Hollyrood and hopelessly beaten off, was disregarded and Hollyrood was timed for the mile in 1:42. The final furlong found him under strong restraint and he was timed for the route in 1:58. Trainer Duval Headley was satisfied with his charge and stated that he would be seen under colors at Jamaica in an overnight race preparatory to the Wood Memorial. M. L. Schwartz Bold Venture, which wintered at Columbia, S. C, in charge of Max Hirsch, and the Greentree Stables Memory Book, one that spent the cold months at Red Bank, N. J., were also called upon for mile and a furlong trials and both performed in impressive fashion. Bold Venture appears well advanced in his training and went the distance, under stout restraint, in 1:59, while Memory Book was timed a second slower. Neither colt was called upon for speed ta any stage." Bold Venture is looked upon as a starter in the Wood Memorial, while Brennan is doubtful as to the-fitness of his charge for such a gruelling race. Marshall Fields Tintagel was breezed six furlongs during the Sunday morning hours and this colt, a certain starter in the Pau-monok, was timed in 1:15. Trainer Odom stated that his charge was in perfect condition and that he would have Quel Jeu as a running mate. Odom proposes to race Tintagel in the Wood Memorial and after studying the showing of his charge in the race decide about the Kentucky Derby. Teufel, owned by the Wheatley Stable and which has grown in popularity with Aqueduct work watchers in recent weeks, was brought out over the Queens County strip for a mile and a furlong test. The big fellow, full of run, flashed high speed through the going and negotiated the route in 1:54 in handy fashion. Under steady restraint throughout, he was timed in :48, the five furlongs in 1:01, six furlongs in 1:14, seven furlongs in 1:27 and the mile in 1:40. He finished out well in hand in 1:54. Isolater was given a mile and a quarter breeze and this fellow went along at a steady pace throughout to finish in 2:18. He was breezing through the final part of the journey. Granville, the main dependance of the Be-lair Stud for the big three-year-old races, was worked out a mile in 1:46, but he could have gone much faster had his rider elected. Fitzsimmons was thoroughly satisfied with his charges and predicted that he would have something to say about the decision of the Wood Memorial, the main objective of his three-year-olds at the present moment.
