MANATELLA, crowded over on his field going to the turn, went into a long lead, withstood a bold effort from GAY BALKO when straightened into the stretch, then came away smartly when shaken up. GAY BALKO followed closest to the winner from the beginning, moved up stoutly entering the stretch, but swerved repeatedly in the closing eighth and tired at the end. DOUBLE SCOTCH raced fonvardly under strong urging, saved ground but could not menace the first two and barely lasted to outstay EJECTOR. The latter, forced to race on the outside, lost much ground at the stretch turn but held on gamely. QUINCY could not engage the leaders. INDIANA was held safe. FLYING TRAPEZE was badly blocked in the opening eighth and forced to be taken up sharply.- KENNER raced very greenly. Scratched Robins Cove, 118; 24532Quoen Full, 115; Prevaricate, 118. APPREHEND, permitted to gain his best stride before moving to the leaders, rallied strongly to engage CHARACTER when straightened into the stretch, took command inside in the final eighth and held on stoutly to withstand NAVAL CADET. The latter improved his position steadily on the outside after being outrun in the first half mile and closed with a bold rush. CHARACTER sprinted into a long lead, saved ground all the way, but flattened out badly after reaching the stretch. XANDRA made up some ground in .the last stages but could not menace tho leaders. DORMIDO lacked early speed and was never a factor. KEOKEE was done early. STEELHEAD lacked speed. PLAY BOOK stopped to a walk after five-eighths. NIGHTCAP worked his way up on the outside after being outrun to the stretch turn, closed fast in the last eighth and came out swiftly after displacing the leaders in the last sixteenth. GALMICA, slow to get going, circled his field and finished courageously. GREEN MIST showed good speed to open up a clear lead early, rallied nicely when challenged but failed to withstand the winner approaching the finish. MY COLIN made a strong bid midway of the turn, saved ground wherever possible, but tired in the closing eighth. BETH BON went into contention with a bold rush on tho inside when reaching the stretch, but was kept in the deeper footing and tired badly during the closing eighth. BRIGHT HAVEN had good speed while setting the pace and held on well to outstay NAUTCII. The latter followed close to the leaders all during the running and held on with good courage in the final drive. BROWN TWIG, away slowly, was in the worst footing and he hung badly in the stretch drive. SILENT SHOT closed stoutly after gaining his best stride. DREEL fell back leaving the back stretch and was held safe thereafter. SINGING WOOD was kept on the outside from the start, made a weak bid midway of the turn then came very wide in the last quarter mile. BACHELOR DINNER had no excuses. SABLIN was outrun all the way. VENETIAN, rated off the early pace, responded gamely to punishment and closed with good energy. KAPENA opened up a long lead when straightened on the back stretch, went along evenly until shaken up, but failed to rally under punishment. KEPI could not threaten when the real test came. PRINCE PETTIE went wide at the first turn, followed closest to the pacemaker, but tired after three-quarters. U DEMON was held safe throughout. ITALIAN HARRY was done eaily. CLOSE CALL, under hard urging from the beginning, rallied nicely to outstay MISTER GANDER, but could not threaten the winner. MISTER GANDER raced in improved fashion and continued strongly after racing forwardly all the way. ABBOTS LAST could not improve his position at any stage. JAMES BOY, well up from the start, wore down EXAGGERATION on the filial turn, drew out easily and had much in reserve at the finish. PENCADER, rated off the early pace, closed stoutly when -called upon but was no match for the winner. AUTOWIN, sluggish in the early racing, gradually improved his position after a half mile and finished stoutly. EXAGGERATION had good speed to set the early pace but was racing on the inside in the heavy going and tired. SAMBO JONES could not get up. TWIDGETS stopped badly.
