MARS HORSES TO MWffiORNE Milky Way Farm to Campaign Thirty-Two at Cicero. The Fighter, Doran, Sangreal and Forever Yours Among 5,000 Added Chicago Derby Eligibles. Mrs. F. C. Mars Milky Way Farms Stable, one of the most progressive in the country, will campaign a string of thirty-two thoroughbreds at the coming Hawthorne meeting. President Albert Sabath, of the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association, was informed Sunday that trainer McGarvey will have the main division of the Mars horses on hand for the thirty-one days of racing beginning May 23. The Hawthorne meeting gets Chicagos major season under way, and with the Milky Way, the Calumet and the Shandon Farm Stables here, almost all of the leading Chicago establishments have been allotted stalls. The Milky Way Farms will be represented by one of the best balanced rosters of thoroughbreds that can be found anywhere. For the Chicago Derby, the 5,000 added event that will feature the Hawthorne meeting, Mrs. Mars will have The Fighter, Forever Yours, Sangreal and Doran. In the handicap division for such events as the Decoration Day Handicap and the Illinois Handicap, both for ,000 added purses, there is Whiskolo, and for sprints the fleet Wise Daughter. For the Hawthorne Juvenile Handicap, probably not even McGarvey knows how good a hand Mrs. Mars will hold. Headed by the four-time winner, Murph, the Milky Way Farms has the highest priced collection of juveniles in the land. Murph heads the list in accomplishments to date, though he didnt cost as much as several other youngsters in the barn. Winner of four out of six starts, this son of Haste Black Gertie has been defeated only by A. G. Vanderbilts record-breaking Air-flame. Two Bull Dog youngsters, Dogaway and Talma Dee, already have found the winners circle, but the majority of the twenty-five babies have yet to appear under colors -and many will make their debuts at the Hawthorne meeting. Among these are a Victorian Grief colt which brought 3,000 at the Saratoga sales and a Teddy Sweetheart colt which brought 0,100. Murph cost ,000, but there are sons of Blue Larkspur, Chicle -and Royal Minstrel in the Milky Way Farms barn .which were higher-priced. Other sires rep- resented on the list, are Sun Beau, Chatter-ton, Pompey, Sickle, St. Germans, Clock Tower, Diavolo, Morvich, Whichone, Stimulus, and Sir Andrew. Last year when the Mars Stable ranked with the first half dozen in money won, it was without the regular services of a leading rider. This season with jockey Alfred Robertson handling the Milky Way Farms campaigners, they have one of the best in the business. His appearance here along with that of Eddie Arcaro with the Calumet Farm Stable, assures Hawthorne of top talent among riders.
