| DETROIT TURF NOTES « ♦ A. J. "Whitey" Abel, triple threat horseman, who rides, trains and owns his own horses, arrived from Maryland with Corum, Chiliad, Vanda Cerulea, High Flag, Idle Flirt and Treasurer Key. Abel has not missed a Detroit season and has been very successful here. For years he was first string rider for the late Harry Payne Whitney and his victory on Bostonian in the Preakness Stakes was one of his many great triumphs. William Quigley, who serves as steward here, completed the official family when he arrived this morning. He came from his California home, where he has been vacationing since the close of the Santa Anita season. In addition to Grand Slam, the horses R. Emmett Potts has here for the Bomar Stable are Billy Bee, Yellow Tulip, Night Play, Beth Bon, Late Day, Bomar, Peacos River, Forest Play, Blue Alice, Sweet Desire, Gold Band, Lovely Girl, Mary Keem, Grand Girl, Noble Girl, Chinese Indian and an unnamed two-year-old. Jockey Jimmy Bryson is with the stable.
