H. Stotler are more certain than ever now that the weights for the Suburban Handicap have been announced by John B. Campbell, that Discovery will not be sent to the post in the mile and one-quarter special, to be renewed at Belmont Park a week from tomorrow. Campbell placed the five-year-old son of Display and Ariadne at the top of the imposts, with 132 pounds, which is two pounds more than he carried to defeat in the Santa Anita Handicap. The Vanderbilt board of strategy believes Discovery is entitled to a lighter package than he had in his last losing race, but the fact is that Campbell doesnt agree. Regardless of the weights, however, Discovery cannot be expected among the Suburban starters, although he is not far away from the races. The young Maryland sportsman and his trainer decided some time ago that Discovery should wait on hot weather before resuming campaigning, and nothing has happened, particularly the Suburban weights, to change their minds. His first objective still is the Brooklyn Handicap. Not having done anything except grow older, Cavalcade remains at the customary notch of 127 pounds, which Is scale weight, to be followed in the Suburban list by Top Row, at 124 pounds. Campbell has given Albert Baronis sturdy performer much credit for his Santa Anita victory in adding the eight pounds to that which he carried into the Santa Anita event. Rosemont is the fourth horse in the Suburban weights, with 120 pounds, but, like the other more highly-regarded eligibles, he will not be a contestant, as he is recovering from a split hoof. Whopper, at 119 pounds, appears the probable high weight in the starting field. Belmont Park patrons wish to know what good is the camera if the placing judges dont use it. The officials saw the result of the fourth race Wednesday one way, and most of the people assembled in the grandstand opposite the finish line of the Widener course saw it another. A large number of persons gathered to inspect the photograph but it was not placed on display. The commotion they created, however, was sufficient to cause the state racing commission, two of whose members were present at the time, j to issue an order to the placing judges to use the camera in all finishes in which the j leading horses are separated less than a length. If carried out, that should prevent a recurrence of the incident which marred a good afternoon of sport Wednesday. Several changes will be made at Belmont Park before the autumn meeting to make the work of the camera even more effective. The apparatus will be installed on the roof of the grandstand for finishes on the main course and a higher structure will be constructed for the camera opposite the final post on the Widener course. Hollyrood, considering that he goes in to the event in first class condition, appears a . certain winner of the Latonia Derby, which features the opening of Latonias long meeting tomorrow. Hal Price Headleys colt was shipped directly to the Milldale course after having raced creditably in the Preakness and with William Brennan deciding to keep the Greentree Stables Memory Book in New York for the Withers, Hollyroods opposition will be forthcoming from such Kentucky-trained three-year-olds as Silas, Songmaker, Prince Fellow, Erin Torch, Wise Duke and Mary Terry. The son of High Cloud and Mandy Hamilton, a half-brother to the 1927 Latonia Derby winner, Handy Mandy, seems to have sufficient class to take into camp such a field as this and he demonstrated in the Preakness that he finally is coming around to good form again. A Latonia Derby victory will go a long way in repaying Headley for Hollyroods failure to train properly for the Kentucky Derby. Brennans decision to run Memory Book in the Withers Saturday comes as something of a surprise, as it was believed the Greentree colt would be reserved for longer i races, particularly after he had been trained [ for and participated in the Preakness, which I is at a mile and three-sixteenths. Brennan I did what he could to sharpen up the son of j St. Germans and Memento for the mile test in sending him three-quarters in 1:13%, the other morning. Memory Book should find the Belmont track more to his liking than Pimlico, because of the wide turn as he will be in a better position to continue his long striding without interruption. A large field is likely in tomorrows Belmont Park feature, with Brevity still due to rule the favorite. Judging by the workouts, Bien Joli and Banister will carry the E. R. Bradley colors, and Coldstream will represent Charles B. Shaffer, the Chicago sportsman. Delphinium will attempt to redeem himself, while Jean Bart and Transporter, like Memory Book, | may try to come back from their Preakness exhibition* with good efforts. Postage Due. Speed to Spare, Teufel and Mr. Bones are other three-year-olds of quality which have been groomed for tomorrows event. *
