Renicks Clever Ride HOMEWOOD 111 May 25 The Ohio owned Albubble racing under the colors of A C Ernst of Cleveland sprung the first major surprise of the meeting when as the rank outsider in a field of only five starters he won the Englewood Purse at one mile one of several features on Tuesdays pro ¬ gram at Washington Park here The son of the Kentucky Derby winner Bubbling Over and Blackeyed Kathleen benefited by light weight and a clever ride from jockey Joe Renick won by a length and defeated in order the strongly supported Prairie Dog Sir Midas Valted and Gold Flag all of them threeyearolds threeyearoldsThe The program was presented under threat ¬ ening skies and the strong suggestion of rain probably had a material effect on the size of the crowd which however made up in enthusiasm what it lacked in numbers numbersIn In scoring his first victory of the year Albubble broke well but was taken in hand when he was unable to outrun Gold Flag The latter cut out the pace and showed the way to the final quarter with Albubble racing in closest pursuit and Prairie Dog next After reaching the stretch Gold Flag began to show signs of distress and the Ernst racer moved to the front and Prairie Dog slipping through on the inside of the early pacemaker got into second place Through the final quarter Albubble stuck gamely to his guns to receive the decision In moving around Gold Flag Albubble swerved in some to the rail and for failing to keep him straight jockey Renick was fined 25 by the stewards stewardsPRAIRIE PRAIRIE DOGS GOOD RACE RACEPrairie Prairie Dog also the second event in which twelve met over seven furlongs and the one to graduate was Schoolmom owned by Mrs Roy Carruthers wife of the general man ¬ ager of Arlington Park The Jean Valjean filly which ruled a virtual equal choice with the Calumet Farm entry of Bomber and Ahead was sent to the front at the outset by Charley Corbett and she continued to show the way by a comfortable margin throughout At the end she was five lengths in advance of her nearest rival Noble Boy War Minstrel being third and Middle Brook fourth Bomber was among the leaders to the final quarter and then dropped back while Ahead was never a strong factor factorThat That the Valdina Farm will have a strong hand to play in the Prairie State Stakes next Saturday was seen in the running of the third event which fell to that stables Roy T This son of Zacaweista whose stable companion Diavolo Boy finished third ran five furlongs in 59 only a fifth second off the track record to win the third race in easy fashion from a field which included several other nominees for Saturdays stake CoSport finished second to separate the two Valdina representatives while Stormy Sea was fourth CoSport was part of the Calumet Farm entry with Teddy Weed WeedCHICAGO CHICAGO VICTORY VICTORYThe The first Chicago victory of the afternoon was recorded in the fourth race by Red Flyer which was carrying the colors of William OTooles Blue Ridge Farm After being seven times second and one time third in eight previous starts this year Red Flyer scored by threequarters of a length after being hard ridden practically all of the six furlongs of the race At that Red Flyer was lucky to win for had Inscona held to a true course instead of swinging wide at the head of the stretch the order might have been reversed As it was Inscona had to be content with second honors beating the pacemaker Tomye a neck for the place
