lELAf ARE HAS ABLE STAFF ft Brown H Conkling and A G Weston Named Stewards John P Turner Secretary and Handicapper Seven Rich Stake Events for forInitial Initial Meeting WILMINGTON Delaware May 25 Gen ¬ eral manager Edward Burke who arrived at Delaware Park last week to assume per ¬ sonal direction of the final preparations for the inaugural meeting of the Wilmington Steeplechase and Race Association which will begin June 26 to continue through July 25 will have the cooperation of the expe ¬ rienced staff which has helped him to make Havre de Grace racing continuously and brilliantly successful for more than a decade Delaware Park Delawares first big race course is at Stanton some seven miles southwest of Wilmington WilmingtonThe The Delaware Park stewards will be George Brown Jr A G Weston and Her ¬ man Conkling the judges of the finish John P Turner and James P Ross Jr Turner will serve as clerk of the course or secre ¬ tary and handicapper and young Ross as clerk of the scales William Jennings will be paddock judge and C H Hughes timer The starting will be done by George Palmer and James P Ross Sr will serve as track superintendent superintendentTurners Turners experience as a program maker and handicapper has been wide and his skill is recognized by horsemen He is busy now framing a program book for the first ten days of the coming meeting He must pro ¬ vide eight races a day with a 1200 feature week days and a 1500 event Saturdays No purse will fall under 1000 and the daily distribution will exceed 10000 10000ENTRIES ENTRIES CLOSE JUNE 1 1Burke Burke and Turner advise horsemen every ¬ where to keep in mind that the seven stake events which will be inaugurated at Dela ¬ ware Park in the course of this first meet ¬ ing will close June 1 Nominations for them must be mailed at midnight of that day The stakes will total 55000 in added money moneyThe The Sussex and Newcastle handicaps gallops of one mile and a quarter and one mile and a sixteenth for threeyearolds and over and the Kent Handicap one mile and a sixteenth for threeyearolds exclusively will each have an added money value of 10000 The Brandywine Handicap one mile and a sixteenth for threeyearolds and over and the Diamond State Stakes one mile and a furlong for threeyearolds exclusively will each be worth 7500 in added money and there will be two 5000 affairs for two yearolds One the Christiana a dash of five furlongs and a half will be for colts and geldings the other the Polly Drum mond five furlongs will be for fillies filliesThe The Kent Handicap which promises to attract those brilliant rivals for the current seasons threeyearold championship War Admiral and Pompoon along with eight or ten lesser pretenders will be the opening day feature
