INCHES SEPARATE LEADERS Dusky Prince Sunanair and Scrooge Stage Stirring Finish Yanderbilt Bepresentative Gets Decision in Close Contest at Belmont Park Par Lame After Bace NEW YORK N T May 25 In one of the best finishes of the Belmont Park meet ¬ ing Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Dusky Prince after setting all the pace was winner of the Harlem Claiming Stakes today over J B Partridges Sunanair and closely lapped on the Partridge colt Herman Phillips Scrooge saved third from another Vander bilt starter Scotch Bun The prize had a net value of 3775 to the winner and it marked the first special to go to the Van derbilt silks at the meeting meetingWith With delightful weather and the track at its best a big crowd was out for the pro ¬ gram offered by the Westchester Associa ¬ tion tionEleven Eleven went to the post for the Harlem which was a gallop of a mile and the start was a good one Sammy Renick had Dusky Prince away fast and rating him next the inner rail sent the son of Pharamond H along at a pace which held the lead secure Conquer went after him from the stalls and then came Scrooge and Bulwark with Al ¬ bania Sunanair and Jesting following in that order and closely lapped lappedIN IN CLOSE QUABTEBS QUABTEBSDusky Dusky Prince increased his lead to a length and Scrooge moved up slightly to soon displace Conquer in second place but Mrs Viaus gelding had the inner berth which was some slight advantage Sunanair was beginning to move up on the outside and Jesting moved into a contending posi ¬ tion but she was in rather close quarters quartersAs As the stretch was reached Scrooge was pressing Dusky Prince so closely that he appeared to have the Vanderbilt colt headed for a few strides but Renick went to a drive and returned to command Sunanair was moving strongly on the inside and was fortunate to find the racing room while Scrooge was hanging on with good courage Thus it was the three came to the line and it was the nose of Dusky Prince which was jjtill in front while Sunanair had only beat ¬ en Scrooge a short head for the place placeG G C Winfrey sent out three for this and the entry was always favorite They cut no serious figure in the running and Par was 80 badly lamed after the race was over that Balaski who rode him walked back to the scales after pulling up his mount mountGBEY GBEY FLUFF GBADTJATES GBADTJATESTownsend Townsend B Martins Grey Fluff making her first appearance under silks since Feb ¬ ruary at Hialeah graduated from the maiden class in the opening six furlongs dash over the main course It was a dash confined to maiden fillies and second place went to B F Christmas Idle Miss with Kate B Spingolds Deloraine taking third from Melodiana MelodianaGary Gary Blacks Little Marty which had a etring of four victories halted when he was third in his last start returned to the win ¬ ning column in the short course steeplechase that carried selling conditions He was rid ¬ den by fhe accomplished amateur W Jones a son of Dr J P Jones who trains the old Lucky Hour gelding who has been his reg ¬ ular pilot and he had to ride a smart race to be winner The place went to Duncan H Reeds Dundrillin with Mrs F Ambrose Clarks Lord Johnson a close third before Budget Boy There was one fall in the race when H E Talbot Jrs Carls Choice fell at the last fence with W Hayhurst when he was in a contending position positionNineteen Nineteen maiden juveniles of the plater variety met in the four and a half furlongs dash run as the third offering There came a surprise winner when Depend the daughr ter of Jamestown and Reliance II was win ¬ ner over Long Wave from the Sage Stable and Mrs W Plunket Stewarts Rich Cream had a close decision for third over Whoa Boy a stablemate of Long Wave There was much bumping and crowding shortly after the break and in the mixup Rack Up was knocked about to stumble badly and unseat Shultz who fortunately escaped injury by his fall fallMilo Milo Shields furnished the winner of the final race of the day in his Achieve which was ridden by V Neal The youngster was content to rate back of the pace cut out by Narise and then through the stretch assumed command and drew away Narise had a safe enough margin over Veiled Lady for the place position although a photograph was called for
