PICTURE FAVORS SLAVONIA Miss Dolphin EvenMoney Choice Lame After Close Finish Columbia Purse at Suffolk Downs Thrills Spectators From Start to Finish Idle Way Wins BOSTON Mass May 25 Mrs R Rus ¬ sells Slavonia arid Mrs A M Creechs Miss Dolphin came driving home in the most ex ¬ citing finish seen in many days in the Co ¬ lumbia Purse which featured the sport at Suffolk Downs this afternoon The camera decision went to Slavonia outsider in the betting by a nose Miss Dolphin an even money choice pulled up lame after the race and this was doubtless a factor in her down ¬ fall fallTwo Two and a half lengths back of the lead ¬ ing pair A J Sacketts Tabitha took the third award with Boston Mary fourth in the field of eight eightIt It was a close race from start to finish Both Good Omen and Miss Dolphin raced away from the gate and sped down the back stretch neck and neck and well in front of the others Near the far turn Good Omen began to tire and Miss Dolphin drew away to a daylight lead on the turn But it was short lived for Hightshoe who had been rating Slavonia third raced past Good t Omen and set sail after the leader in a de ¬ termined manner mannerBY BY MATTER OF INCHES INCHESThe The pair came into the stretch a half a length apart At the sixteenth post there was nothing to choose between them At the seventy yard marker they were still battling it out head and head At the finish while Slavonia appeared to drop her nose in front it would have been no great surprise to see either number posted postedTabitha Tabitha worked her way up gradually to take third She could not get within threat ¬ ening distance of the leaders but was easily best for third They finished in the excel ¬ lent time of 111 111T T F Swords Vote Boy beat the gate by about three lengths but still the 3 to 2 fa ¬ vorite failed in the fourth at six furlongs Mrs F Langebartels Mixwell got up in the final stride to earn a nose decision With a better start the Misstep gelding would have won by a much wider margin The break was the worst seen in New England this season Vote Boy boldting out so far that the boy almost took him up and was obviously sur ¬ prised to see the flag fall The others went off straggling At the end of the journey Danny Sullivans improving Dreel was third just a neck behind the runnerup Sound Advice finished fourth fourthODDSON ODDSON IN FRONT FRONTDie Die Hard won as an oddson favorite should as the sport opened with a six fur ¬ longs sprint The 9 to 10 shot from Miss Anita Doris stable ran head and head with F R McDuffs Fair Time from the start the pair drawing away from all rivals In the final sixteenth Die Hard pulled away easily after killing off his rival and won by two lengths accomplishing the score in easy fashion Racing along with Die Hard took plenty out of Fair Time but he had little opposition for the place taking that award by a length over Paul Rattis Romney Royal Any Chance was fourth in the field of eleven elevenThere There was something in the nature of an oldfashioned clean up in the second as Sam Workans Idle Way backed from 15 to 1 down to a little better than 5 to 1 came whooping home ahead of the pace ¬ maker Hasty Glance from the Mrs A M Creech stable The winner was the first of the New England season for Lee Canfield Ladfield onetime stake performer who was in for 2500 today carried the silks of Mrs C Crane to third place placeCharley Charley Griggs only negro jockey here whipped home on Gary T Graysons Third Party in the five furlongs dash for two yearolds that was third on the card At the end he had the Teddy filly two and a half lengths clear of John Hay Whitneys To the Rescue Bill Gallaghers Right Lady finished third and Folk Dance fourth fourthThe The fifth consecutive favorite to meet de ¬ feat during the afternoon went to the post in the sixth race This event was arranged for route platers at a mile and a furlong Albuquerque was the one to make all the pace right up to inside the final furlong where he tired permitting Gilbert Elston to take the command and finish a length and a half in front of Breezing Along The lat ¬ ter was prominently placed throughout the entire way but after assuming the runner up position at the furlong pole was unequal to the task of overtaking Gilbert Elston
