PARKWOOD STABLE VICTORY Donosiris Accounts for Its First 1937 Feature Purse f 7 Son of Osiris DI Finishes Neck Before Goster GosterAfter After Long Woodbine Park ParkStretch Stretch Duel TORONTO Ont May 25 Coming back with a performance that was on a par with his recent triumph here a few days ago Donosiris sturdy son of Osiris II and Hey sporting the silks of the Parkwood Stable was winner of Windsor Plate Handicap a test of six furlongs for threeyearolds foaled in Canada It was the fifth race and fea ¬ ture attraction at Woodbine Park this after ¬ noon It was the first feature purse for the Parkwood Stable since the Canadian season was ushered in and the score of the Osiris II gelding came in an exciting finish when he defeated Goster of the H C Hatch stable by a neck while Pagan King a stablemate was third before Slim Salome and Cotter CotterWith With the two leaders battling furiously for principal honors a gap of five lengths separated the duelists from the others and the time for the distance was 114 114The The field for the Windsor Plate Handicap left the stalls after one of the shortest de ¬ lays of the day at the barrier and Pagan King showed his customary speed to domin ¬ ate the early stages leading by a daylight margin in the first quarter mile and in ¬ creasing his advantage to three lengths on the turn turnPOPULAR POPULAR TRIUMPH TRIUMPHPagan Pagan King was setting a fast pace but he had completed his duty just as the turn for home was reached Goster in nearest attendance overhauled the gelding midway in the stretch but Donosiris had charged up on the outside and in a thrilling duel which lasted until inside the final sixteenth drove past to reward the backers of the Parkwood pair right at the end Donosiris and Pagan King ruled at prohibitive odds and the suc ¬ cess was one of the most popular of the day dayFive Five cheap twoyearolds furnished the contention in the opening event of the after ¬ noon and it resulted in a surprise when G M Hendries Star Flower turned in a frontrunning victory at the first asking to triumph in a mild drive Handled by the veteran N Foden the daughter of Dark Hero assumed command in the first furlong and by saving ground all the way completed the four furlongs trip two lengths before the favored Toneyone of the H C Hatch barn while Pearl Tipped took third thirdLingster Lingster second choice in the speculation was a front running winner of the second race that engaged eight sprinters of medi ¬ ocre grade It was the third victory for the Cosgrave Stable horse when she led Toike Oike a rank outsider over the line while the disappointing favorite Jub Jub cap ¬ tured third thirdSTEEPLECHASE STEEPLECHASE A FARCE FARCEThe The Thick Thorn Steeplechase proved to be a farce as only one starter of the four that met completed the distance of two miles which went to Wilfrid G of the Foxbar Stable giving the fiveyearold son of Anmer the distinction of being the first double winner at the meeting It was a walkover for the Foxbar gelding as the three other starters Big March Leadgold and Quick Verdict were eliminated through mishaps although Leadgold was remounted after unseating McKenna at the last jump to be awarded second honors honorsIn In a slow run race following a lengthy delay of eleven and onehalf minutes at the starting point in the fourth race Copo rac ¬ ing coupled with Goanwin for the Cosgrave Stable drove to a hard earned victory over seven other nondescript platers at the end of six furlongs It was the second score of the day for that establishment Lingster having turned the trick in the second race and the victory came in a stirring finish with Sweepfast SweepfastJockey Jockey R Watson was aboard his second winner when he drove Molasses Bob to vic ¬ tory over seven other cheap platers in the mile and onesixteenth of the sixth race for which he was the better supported starter Proving best in the running and overcoming much interference at the final bend where he was blocked when attempting to drive through on the inside Molasses Bob came around his rival to land home winner by two and onehalf lengths In this Air King took down second money while Trickling outfinished the tiring Glistening for the short end of the spoils
