NEW YORK SPORT EXCITING Dead Heat for 2nd Place and Dis ¬ qualification Mark Thursday Card Treford Easy Winner of Little Neck Han ¬ dicap With Dark Hope Second and Thorson Third NEW YORK N Y May 27 Thomas H Somervilles steady going Treford was win ¬ ner of the best offering of the Westchester Association at Belmont Park today when with a rush through the stretch he captured the mile and a sixteenth of the Little Neck Handicap J W Y Martins Dark Hope finished second easily beating Buckley M Byers Thorson and Star Shadow was fourth The other starters were Moon Side and Fair Stein SteinThe The card was one composed of overnight races but it resulted in plenty of competi ¬ tion with one dead heat for second place in the third and a disqualification in the opener Conditions were delightful for the sport and a big crowd was out outThere There was no delay at the post for the Little Neck and as the six engaged left Fair Stein was first to show in front but she did not last long when she was headed by both Moon Side and Dark Hope Thorson followed these closely while Peters soon had Treford under a snug restraint back of the leaders and well before Star Shadow which as usual was badly outrun in the early stages stagesOVERCOMES OVERCOMES HANDICAP HANDICAPFair Fair Stein was first of the leading quartet to weaken and as she faltered Dark Hope and Moon Side continued to ra e along stride for stride and Thorson held his position closely after them Going to the stretch turn Peters made his first move with Tre ¬ ford and he was forced to circle around three horses at the loss of some ground The son of Hartford was good enough to meet this handicap and in the run home he came on straight and true to be over the line winner by a length lengthDark Dark Hope hung on well after the use that had been made of his speed under the top weight and he was four lengths before Thor ¬ son and Star Shadow had closed some ground when he finished fourth fourthThe The second best field of the day went to the post in the seven furlongs of the Wood mere Handicap which engaged a small field from Class C in the graded handicaps Sandy Boot from the J D Nprris stable was the winner Challephen from the Brann castle Farm stable raced to the place and Miss K R Fondas Miss Rainbow had no trouble beating Great Haste for third thirdFLYING FLYING SNOW SET BACK BACKA A disqualification occurred in the open ¬ ing six furlongs dash for plater maidens when Mrs C S Bromleys Flying Snow was set back for a foul after having led home Armagnac from the Howe Stable j with Mrs Ethel D Jacobs Wulfstan saving j third from Maebob By the ruling of the stewards it moved Maebob into third place Flying Snow had interfered with Wulfstan slightly and in the stretch run Peters was riding Armagnac close when Arcaro made his move on the inside insideThe The start had considerable to do with the finish for Flying Snow was away run ¬ ning and just lasted to score over Armag ¬ nac from the Howe Stable with Mrs Ethel EthelD D Jacobs Wulfstan a close third before Maebobv Maebob v Mrs Ethel D Jacobs old English fencer Amagansett making his first start of the year was winner of the short course steeple ¬ chase which was under selling conditions Well ridden by the amateur W Jones he was never far from the pace and was going away at the end with a winning margin of three lengths lengthsA A lively battle ensued for the place in which Louis R Stuyvesants Harem Honey barely beat Clonard from the Mill River Stable arid the only other starter was H HE E Talbot Jrs Pavilion Royal RoyalThere There was a dead heat in the second race but it was for second place This was a four and half furlongs dash for maiden juvenile fillies and after Chocalula was winner for the King Ranch John Simonettis Mollie Swain and John Hay Whitneys Room Service were so closely lapped for the place that a photograph could not separate them Could Be followed these closely
