SHREVEPORT INAUGURAL Racing Strip Improved and Purses Increased Over Last Season Nationally Known Racing Officials OfficialsIn In Charge Local Business Men MenSponsoring Sponsoring Autumn Session SHREVEPORT La Oct 21 The first program of the season will be decided to ¬ morrow when the autumn meeting of the State Jockey Club gets under way at the improved State Fair Grounds course here Under 100 percent local sponsorship and with the State Fair Association and other Shreve port institutions participating the meeting will run for twentyfive days closing on Sat ¬ urday November 19 19Determined Determined to leave nothing undone which might contribute toward the permanent es ¬ tablishing of racing as a boon to local com ¬ merce and expand Shreveports importance as a sports center the State Jockey Club has arranged an attractive program for the meeting Much has been expended for im ¬ provements until now the plant compares with the finest of its kind anywhere Purses have been increased almost 100 per cent over a year ago and some of the countrys outstanding racing officials and operation experts will head the various departments and oversee the racing racingCLUBS CLUBS OFFICERS OFFICERSPrincipal Principal officers of the State Jockey Club are E Bernard Weiss Simon Ehrlich Glen McFadin W R Hlrsch and others all prom ¬ inent in local business and civic circles Charles F Henry Owen E Pons Emmett E Hilcman Thomas J Brown George Barrett and others all prominently known on the turf and by the racing public for their abil ¬ ity positionsA and integrity will be in the key positions A fine program and every indication of ideal weather and a fast track tomorrow point to a successful launching of the meet ¬ ing At the same time the curtain will be rung up on the State Fair of Louisiana and the two big attractions are expected to crowd the city with visitors a majority coming I fContiniird on ttrnntvserrtnth naar SHREVEPORT INAUGURAL Continued from first page from cities in east Texas Local hotels were filling up today todayTomorrows Tomorrows racing program honors the newspapers and other publications of the Southwest and the principal race a handii cap is named in tribute to the Fourth Esj J tate Other of the better races of the fine card are named for the Shreveport Times and the Shreveport Journal In all seven i races make up the offering for the first day dayGOOD GOOD FIELD FIELDEntries Entries for the press handicap which will be decided over one mile and seventy yards include Merry Freda Flight of Gold Jeu de Bar Springs Here Ragacreek Phrixus Allegory and Grey Doll Top weight of 112 pounds will be shouldered by Merry Freda the probable favorite favoriteApproximately Approximately four hundred horses many transferred here from Illinois Kentucky Michigan and Ohio are quartered on the grounds and formidable additions will be made following the close of the meeting of the tracks in the Middle West WestWhile While only eight horses will be permitted to start in the first and second races and all events at five furlongs ten contestants may go to the post in all other contests The popular Daily Double will be sold on the first and second races and the field for the Inaugural contest will be called to the post at two oclock oclockClose Close to fifty jockeys had registered today and several noted riders were included among those having mounts tomorrow
